I was in the car with my son and he was listening to Eminem. There was a song playing in which the question was asked, “if you had one shot, one opportunity to seize everything you’ve ever wanted in one moment, would you capture it or just let it slip?” My reply, and I said this out loud, was that I doubted I would ever be offered everything I ever wanted in one shot. Then I started thinking…what is everything I ever wanted? If an angel appeared in front of me and told me I could have everything I ever wanted right then and there, what would I say? Well, the first thing that comes to mind, and I suspect this is true for the majority of people, is “I want to be happy”. Hmmm…I want to be happy…that is quite a generic and open-ended phrase…either the angel wouldn’t know what to give me or the sense of humor I suspect the higher power(s) of having will kick in and I could be pleasantly or unpleasantly surprised. Ok…so…maybe I should define more what “everything I ever wanted” would be…I want my kids to be healthy and happy. I want to spend time with and be with the man I love. I want to succeed in my career. Wait a minute…these are a tiny bit more defined…but still too generic...still needs more definition…which I will put more thought into. The point(s) I am trying to make are this…if you don’t think about and define what it is you want...what will make you happy…you will never truly get there. There is no goal set…nothing to work towards…nothing to look forward to. I think many people tend to get caught up in just living one day at a time, they get stuck in the monotony of life…just happy to get through each day. Others get stuck looking into the future too much and end up overlooking and possibly losing something that they want and/or that would make them happy. I am not saying that living one day at a time is a bad thing, and I am not saying that looking into the future is a bad thing, but there needs to be a happy medium somewhere. So take a moment and think about it…what is it you want…what would make you happy…
