What are you waiting for?

Mason jars, country crock and cool whip bowls

Old outhouse, well water and a potbelly stove

Field full of fresh produce to eat and sale

What a rich country life and I lived it well

Old winding dirt roads and fruit trees a plenty

There are few stresses and complaints if you had any

What rich country life when you come from a humble beginning

Living a life like no other that always felt like you’re winning

We had so much more than one would imagine we did

What a rich country life to grow up around as a kid

You could play outside all day and never get abducted

And there are simple rules to follow that you were instructed

Chicken coops, hog pens and pasture full of cows

Old rusted tractor, hay left to bail and fields left to plow

Sunday morning service packed in such a small place

And we sing and praise as joy showed on everyone’s face

Skoal cans piled up in the back of my old Ford truck

And I never washed it for the mud bought me luck

Cane poles, fishing or going hunting in morning fog

Or sipping a little or chopping up a pile of logs

What a rich country life that taught me to appreciate it all

You learn to get up and dust yourself off after a fall

You said yes ma’am and no ma’am, yes sir and no sir

And as we got old the memories were never a blur

What a rich country life that I was blessed to grow up in

My roots run deep and my country soul shines within
