Another very cloudy and cold October Minnesota Day here. And just to complete the stereotype, I am listening to Garrison Keillor and the "Prarie Home Companion" on streaming Audio as I write this. Yeah, it's probably a little cheesey, and certainly the music isn't what I would normally listen to, but I love the humor and it's quite nostalgic for me. When I was very little, my family would spend Saturdays at 'The Cabin' and my dad would always be grilling hamburgers on the BarBQue and PHC would be on the radio. I would listen to it, and not quite understand that not only was the whole concept of Lake Woebegon fictional, but that it was a joke...it just seemed to much like my own small hometown. As I got older, okay, when I finally went to college, I finally figured this out, I think at some point when I was telling some inane story about my hometown to a new college friend, and she looked at me and said, "wow, it's like you're from Lake Wobegone or something!" Completly missing her point, I said, no, wrong lake, it's Lake Superior....But yeah, sometimes it is pointedly like where I'm from.
Anyway, not much else going on here. It is cold, and I was going to have an adventurous day with my girlfriend. I finished up my field trip of St. Paul, and there were some interesting places that I found, and I wanted to take my girlfriend to them. So, the first stop was Swede Hollow, which, when I stopped as part of my class, I never went down into the valley, just peered down on it from the overlook. This time, we took the stairs all the way to the bottom.
A mistake. There really isnt' much there, and this certainly isn't the time of year to visit it. So we climbed back up the stairs, and my girlfriend had a really bad asthma attack from walking uphill so hard. Kinda my fault, since I pushed us so quickly, but there was so much else I wanted to see. Anyway, in the end, as soon as we got back to the car I had to take her back home, and she's out for the day. Poor kid. Her Asthma is so bad this year, I really can't wait for a good, final freeze ! Before then, she's still going to suffer. So we came back and took naps and medications, and she's still out so I'm back at a coffee shop, taking advantage of the wi-fi. And listening to PHC.
Later.
