Tequila is the lifeblood of any Cinco de Mayo party, but to cross the line from college party to adult soiree, we recommend presenting a custom margarita bar. You begin with the basic recipe: - 1 to 1/2 oz of tequila - 1 oz orange liqueur (e.g. Cointreau or Grand Marnier) - 1 to 1/2 oz of juice - 1 oz of sweetener, if preferred (e.g. agave nectar or simple syrup)
Then give your guests some options in how they build their drink. Pick a brand of 100% agave tequila that fits in your budget, and select 3 varieties, such as anejo, reposado, and silver. For juices, choose delicious and exotic options, like mango, passion fruit, watermelon, blood orange, or good ol’ classic lime.
Of course, you could always go with the pre-made margarita mixes. We promise we won’t tell. Just don’t forget to provide margarita salt to line the rims of the margarita glasses!
Finally, the age old question: blended or on-the-rocks? On the rocks drinks allow for a custom experience and a fresh drink, but takes some prep time. If you prefer frozen, we recommend a margarita maker over a blender. These devices will keep the slushy drink circulating, preventing it from melting and watering down as it would do if it were pre-blended and set out in pitchers.
