When I answer the phone at work my greeting is always, “This is Juliette. How can I help you?”
I enunciate my words carefully because I know that hearing things over the phone can be a pain. I take care to make sure that I state my name clearly.
Yet for all that care no one pays attention.
The next person who calls me, Joanne, Joanna, Jessica, Jennifer, I’ve even gotten Stacy and Karen, I’m going to blow up at. If you didn’t hear my name then DO NOT try to call me by what you think you heard. It will only serve to piss me off.
The worst part is if I slow down even more and emphasize each syllable they get upset because they think I’m insulting their intelligence.
And make no mistake, I would be if I thought they had enough to insult.
To view it from our perspective these are the same people that we send out a notice that their order is on hold and right below that it clearly states why and what needs to be done to take it off hold. But they only see that the notice is from us and sometimes they see the work “HOLD”
I’m serious. They call and say, “I just got this notice that my order is on hold. Why?”
Our response, “Well, did you read it?”
Their response, “No.”
Oy.
But yeah, I’m fed up with customers calling me by every name in the book except my own.
