The Gift
I sit here in silence
Melancholy on my mind
Love has touched me more than once
Leaving me partially blind
Blind to simple beauty
Love, honor and pride
Pushing it all away
Casting it aside
The void is wide
The slope is steep
I focus on my day
Just to stay on my feet
My desire is weak
My mind is numb
I gave what I had
To the only one
She touched my soul
Protected my heart
So many miles away
But never apart
I feel her now
I sense her smile
Humbled in her presence
Across the miles
Close to the end
Of the life I knew
My only thought
Was one of you
In everyone’s life
Change must occur
Sometimes slow and methodical
Other times they are a blur
In retrospect and hindsight
The picture is clear
Its not what you offered
But rather knowing you were here
You gave me something
That I can never replace
A peace in my heart
From a smile on your face
I never held you close
Or touched your hand
But a picture I did see
Thank you for who you are
And the gift of time
That you made for me
