HOUSTON—Protesters who say they’re over-taxed and tired of multi-billion-dollar government bailouts plan to take to the streets around the country Wednesday for Tax Day tea parties.
Locally, protests are scheduled to take place in Pasadena, Alvin, Lake Jackson, College Station, Livingston, Seabrook, Sugar Land, The Woodlands and Houston.
In Houston proper, the protest will be in Jones Plaza near the downtown post office at 4 p.m.
The events are all part of the National Tax Day Tea Party.
Tea party organizers say their events are non-partisan.
They say the tea parties are simply a call to action for those who feel the government’s spending and tax plans are excessive.
“The younger generations are going to have to pay for this. That’s our biggest problem here. I mean, it just doesn’t end today.
It doesn’t end with my generation, it ends two or three generations down the line,” Marilyn Jordan, an organizer for the Sugar Land tea party, said.
Organizers say thousands are expected to participate in the tea party protests
