Storms...

This is what it looked like outside today... As for inside, well, that looked much the same. First, the kids are really wound up. The house is a mess in that “kids playing with every toy they have” way and I've broken up more fights that included shoving each other to the ground and body slamming each other into walls (does it count as a fight if both kids are laughing and encouraging each other??) than I care to count. At least they should be winding down soon. There are some major things going on for a few people I know, which has ripple-effected into my life, mostly in those obnoxious highly emotional yet helpless ways. Stress nonetheless. I've had a major website update, which was more work than it appears as I shift things over to my new site. (Both sites still look the same, a will for a while, so I have time to find old links and change them.) I've gotten 4 rejects in the past 24 hours, amusingly enough starting right after I cleaned up my list of markets and set up some submissions (which have to wait until markets open on Sept. 1st). But I spent about 4 hours doing that, and an hour later the rejects start coming in. I'm expecting more, just because it's obviously raining now. And then, of course, there's the thunder... To put it mildly Mardi Gras Publishing is in trouble. Seeing as it's Saturday night you'll all probably know the outcome, about the same time I do. So there's no point in, well, pointing fingers or the like. My story that sold to Mardi Gras isn't yet published, it's a short story, not written specifically for Mardi Gras (it was written because I was amused with the concept, and trust me, I've gotten my satisfaction out of it), and at just over 4k it's under the “short” length commonly accepted by most other romance epresses. So my case isn't typical of the others you'll likely hear about. I'm not terribly upset because I've lost nothing. Maybe I'll give Blood Love out through my website for Yule (or Halloween). It's so freakin' niche it'll be a tough sell no matter what. Maybe I'll rewrite it, bigger better and sexier and send it out into the world again. Remember my post not to long ago.. It Never Gets Easier? Well, it doesn't. We just get used to it. To everyone else caught up in this, or any other publisher closing: Keep moving forward. Even if your books are lost for now, or in limbo, if you're a writer you have other books. There are other publishers. If you have made the decision to pull out, cut your losses and move on.
