Seneca Wallace

Randy Peterson buzzes through the college landscape with thoughts on timeless topics. "Someday, I might like to give that a shot."

He might have that opportunity.

An unsigned NFL free agent, Wallace is playing the waiting game. He's waiting for someone to need a quarterback.

"You never know when it can happen," he said of another NFL opportunity. "I'm staying in shape. I told myself that I'll give it this season, then one more off season and if nothing happens by then, it's probably time to go on to the next chapter of my life."

That will include working for the foundation he established in honor of his mother, who died in 2007 of cancer. It will include building group Wholesale Jerseys homes for low income children.

It could include Wholesale NFL Jerseys coaching.

"It depends on a lot of things," said Wallace, who will run a football camp Saturday in Ankeny.

He can be picky. He doesn't need the money.

He is passionate about his alma mater. His former college coach, Dan McCarney, is the head coach at North Texas, not far from Wallace's Dallas home.

Wallace didn't burn bridges in Ames. He still gets back to campus as often as his schedule allows. He's a graduate. He met his wife, the former Abbie Larson of Gowrie, while attending Iowa State.

If you believe every college football team needs a good guy former star on the coaching staff, then Wallace might be your guy.

"The good thing is that I'm not in a hurry," he said. "Coaching football, though, is something that I definitely would consider if it's the right situation."

VEGAS PREDICTIONS: How many games will Iowa and Iowa State win this year?HOT READS

UNI IS ALL WORLD, TOO: They're making a big deal out of Kansas representing the United States in the 2015 World University Games an actual team heading overseas instead of the usual all star cast of players that don the red, white and blue. This just in: Northern Iowa did it in 2007. Behind hims is John Lamb, who played for Walnut Creek YMCA. 20. He's petitioned the NCAA for it to happen earlier, but he's not holding his breath.

Former Iowa defensive back Nico Law will end up someplace other than Northern Iowa. The idea of joining former teammate Barkley Hill as a Panther, however, was floated after he announced that he was leaving school following a disorderly conduct charge.
