A man is walking through a village. He sees an old man trying to push his cart up a steep hill. Since the man has a kind heart, he offers to help. Once at the top of the hill, the old man says "thank you" and goes on his way.
Feeling much better about himself, the man continues on his walk and comes across a car that is stuck in a hole. The driver just standing there looking at it, trying to figure out what to do. Being compassionate, he tells the driver to get in and he begins to push the car. Finally after several grueling minutes, the car is free. The driver says "thank you" and goes on his way.
Tired, but very happy with his good deeds, he continues. He comes to a school, where all of the children are looking up at a tree. He askes them what they are looking at and they say "Our ball has gotten stuck in the high branches and now there is nothing to play with!". Being a heroic person, he climbs the tree, all the way up to the highest branches where the wind sways them back and forth. He retrieves the ball and returns it to the children. They all say "thank you" and run away to play.
Havng had a morning full of encounters the man is happy with himself and feels great. He goes around the corner and there he sees a large house that is on fire. Being the person he is, he runs over and gets everyone out of the house. He grabs a bucket and runs to the well for some water. He returns and throws it on the fire. A crowd starts to gather and watch as the man runs back and forth to the well. Each trip slowing him more. And just as he feels he can't go anymore, he sees the old man with buckets in his cart rushing to the well. Next he passes the driver of the car, with buckets in the car driving to the well. As he nears the house, he sees all of the children that were playing, have now started to make a chain towards the well. As the entire village joins in, they begin to really make a difference and slowly get the fire put out. While the home sustains some damage, most of the belongings inside are now salvagable. Exhausted, everyone says thank you and goes on their way.
The man sits down and starts to think. He realizes he is like a stick. Alone, he is able to manage a little before he starts to crack and finally breaks. But one by one, as more sticks are added, the strength of theis multiplied many times over. With each single stick added, the entire spine of the bundle becomes unbreakable.
So remember, even though what you do may seem like it makes no difference, and you may decide that it doesnt really matter, if you join with more sticks.....anything is possible!!
