Rehab Scandal

A flurry of gossip and rumors hit Las Vegas last week when two completely unrelated news stories emanated out of the ‘The Rock’ in back-to-back days, leaving some to question their coincidences. First, and more importantly, longtime promoter-turned-DJ, Jack LaFleur has resigned from his promoters post to focus on moving forward with his career on the turntables, “I’m loving DJ’ing,” LaFleur said late last week, “I really want to see how far I can go with it.” He will still be a fixture at Body English, at least for the next bit, serving DJ residencies at their popular Sunday School promotion, as well as their newly launched Wednesday’s. The other rumor, with more sinister implications, was the news that a major Hard Rock Hotel investigation had found several employees producing and selling counterfeit Rehab wristbands. One source tells us that the property believes as much as 7-figures in potential revenue had been re-routed into the employee’s pockets. “Rehab is a revenue beast and the promotion that put Las Vegas pool parties on the map,” said HRH director of marketing, Phil Shalala, “And some of our employees we’re obviously taking liberties with that.” When asked about the rumor that federal agencies were involved with the investigation, Shalala stated, “When theft and money are involved there are certain agencies that get involved, it’s simply procedure.” Clearly, the stories are completely unlinked, while several of the suspected employees were escorted off property by security, LaFleur left with, “a handshake and a hug,” from the Morgans Hotel Group team. “Jack has been a tremendous asset to the property,” Shalala continued, “He’s made the decision to go a different direction in his life and we want to be here and support him, that’s what we do for our employees.” Clearly, LaFleur’s continued residencies at Body English are proof that the timing of the two stories are mere coincidence and nothing more.
