AIDS

It is bad enough that people are dying of AIDS, but no one should die of ignorance.

The Invitation It doesn't interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart's longing. It doesn't interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dreams, for the adventure of being alive. It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life's betrayals or have become shrivelled and closed from fear of further pain. I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it or fade it or fix it. I want to know if you can be with joy mine or your own. if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, be realistic, remember the limitations of being human. It doesn't interest me if the story you are telling me is true. I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself. If you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul. If you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy. I want to know if you can see Beauty even when it is not pretty every day, and if you can source your own life from its presence. I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand at the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon,“Yes.” It doesn't interest me to know where you live, or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done to feed the children. It doesn't interest me who you know or how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the centre of the fire with me and not shrink back. It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied. I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away. I want to know if you can be alone with yourself, and if you truly like the company you keepin the empty moments.

MY ANGEL AND FRIEND

I never thought that I would find a friend so great and a friend so kind I look up to you in every way 'cause I learn something from you every day. Without you I don't know where I'd be but you're still here, friends with me you deserve so much more than I can give but without you I wouldn't live. You've given me more than money can buy and for you I'd give my all and I would die This feeling I feel gets stronger every day hoping not to screw it up, I constantly pray. I know we have our problems every now and then but once it's fixed our friendship is better times ten and I want you to know that I truly do care even in fights when I say things that aren't fair. You're an angel from God up above and I'm thankful for your understanding love because when you're around everything seems right and for you, until the end, I will fight. It doesn't matter what you do or say because you'll be my friend anyway I know the real you that's down deep inside and in you, I'll always confide. Thanks for being the friend you are you're my best friend, an angel by far everything in you is an inspiration to do great and you'll be loved by all cause that's your fate! So never stop being the real and wonderful you cause God shines through in all that you do and whenever it seems like I'm never there remember this: I love you and I'll always care!

WHAT ARE THE ODDS

What are the odds of dying? The table below was prepared in response to frequent inquiries, especially from the media, asking questions such as, "What are the odds of being killed by lightning?" or "What are the chances of dying in a plane crash?" The table has four columns. The first column gives the manner of injury such as motor-vehicle crash, fall, fire, etc. The second column gives the total number of deaths nationwide due to the manner of injury in 2003 (the latest year for which data are available). The third column gives the odds of dying in one year due to the manner of injury. The fourth column gives the lifetime odds of dying from the manner of injury. Statements about the odds or chances of dying from a given cause of death may be made as follows: * The odds of dying from (manner of injury) in 2003 were 1 in (value given in the one-year odds column). * The life-time odds of dying from (manner of injury) for a person born in 2003 were 1 in (value given in the lifetime odds column). For example, referring to the first line of the table below: * The odds of dying from an injury in 2003 were 1 in 1,755. * The lifetime odds of dying from an injury for a person born in 2003 were 1 in 23. National Geographic magazine's August 2006 issue features the " Ways to Go" chart based on the National Safety Council's Odds of Dying statistics The odds given below are statistical averages over the whole U.S. population and do not necessarily reflect the chances of death for a particular person from a particular external cause. Any individual's odds of dying from various external causes are affected by the activities in which they participate, where they live and drive, what kind of work they do, and other factors. Source: National Safety Council estimates based on data from National Center for Health Statistics and U.S. Census Bureau. Deaths are classified on the basis of the Tenth Revision of the World Health Organization's "The International Classification of Diseases" (ICD). Numbers following titles refer to External Cause of Morbidity and Mortality classifications in ICD-10. One year odds are approximated by dividing the 2003 population (290,850,005) by the number of deaths. Lifetime odds are approximated by dividing the one-year odds by the life expectancy of a person born in 2003 (77.6 years). Soldier's Do Cry!

A Soldier's Tear As I sit here in the early morning dew I cannot stop thinking of you All I have of you is a picture of you I dream of being with you some how. Morning turns today and still I miss you I want so much to be able to snuggle with you But I don't know you just by writing The afternoon heat consumes me Still all I think about is being with you when I get home. Day turns to evening and the cool air blows I hope and pray that you know Even though I don't know you that good I am still thinking of my sweet new pen pal friend I just want to tell you that soon I will be home to stay. Darkness falls and I lay down to sleep I want so much to talk to you that I weep As I look to the sky and see the smiling moon I wonder if you looking too and hope to see me soon. In my dreams I see tears in your eyes I wish I could hold you and tell you not to cry My little pen pal friend everything will be just fine Your solider will be home on time to make you all mine.
