1st Blog

Ok, kids... this is my first blog here, if you're reading, welcome. I probably should warn those of you easily offended, to leave immediately. Perhaps a better name for this blog would be random thoughts sometimes, but mostly things that piss me off. Let's get started, shall we? I'm an average guy, in my opinion. I'm not someone who I consider to be HIGHLY intelligent, but I don't consider myself to be an idiot, either. I work for a large real estate company, I don't sell houses, but, I do support those that do with thier technological necessities, specifically, thier telephones. The telephone has been around for a long, long time. It's a fairly simple device, from a user perspective, it makes an audible sound or flashes a light to alert the user that an incoming call is present, when this happens, the user has a couple of options. A) answer the incoming call by lifting the handset or B) allow the call to follow a predetermined forwarding path, generally forward to another device where the call may be answered or, a more popular option forward to a voicemail system. We're going to address the second option. Occasionally, a call reaches a voicemail system that for some reason does not get recorded. Generally, these calls terminate on thier own, however, sometimes they do not, leaving a long period of silence. I recently received a request from one of the 1100 or so agents that depend on me to solve thier tecnological needs, detailing the above scenario. Again, I am of average intelligence, but, if I received a message with no audible sound, I would consider it "one of those things that cannot be answered", delete the message and go on with my life. Not today, kids. To make a long story short, ( maybe too late ) if you want to delete a message with nothing on it, what difference does it make which button that you push? For some reason, this agent didn't want to push a button for fear that it may do something. What could pressing a button possibly do? Delete the entire contents of the voicemail? Isn't that what you want to do with a silent message, anyway? Or, oh my god, maybe it would reformat the entire voicemail system, with a single depressed key. In that case, I would deserve to rebuild 1100 mailboxes for being such a dumbass to allow idiots that clearly cannot operate a simple command tree, access to this capability. Or maybe it's just me.
