From: Blount County Animal Rescue Effort " Blount CARE" and Citizens United for a Better Blount County "CUBBC" COMMUNITY SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT ALERT - PLEASE READ ! ! Some of you may not be aware of what is going on with the Blount County Commission and the animal control / animal shelter issue. As of Jan. 1st. 2007 Blount County residents no longer has animal control / shelter services. It has come to my attention through calls to our Blount County Animal Rescue Effort phone line that a large part of our Blount County citizens themselves are still in the dark about this. So many people that I spoke with have no idea what is going on. They haven’t heard anything about the animal control funding problems, or that the citizens of Blount County no longer have any animal control / animal shelter service. They have no idea that as far as our County Government is concerned, we will remain in this situation for between 6-18 months or more. At this time County government is working on this issue, but it has no definite plan for restoring our services. Unless we raise awareness our citizens will have no idea what is going on, right up to the point where they are in need of help. Only when they make that call for help, will they learn that there is no-one at all coming to assist them and that they are on their own. There is now no one to call and say my pet is missing, have you found it. There is no central location, no-one official to contact if you find someone’s cherished pet. There is no one coming to help if your neighbors animals are tearing up your lawn, garden or property. And there is no one to call for help about a stray dog , or pack of stray dogs, that is a threat to you , your children, your pet, or your livestock. There is no one from your county government going to assist you in any way, with any animal problem, unless it is a matter of injury to humans and then only AFTER the fact. Only after human blood has been spilled, can our already over-burdened sheriff’s deputies respond. 2007 is turning back time here in Blount County Tennessee to a by gone era. Roving packs of stray dogs attacking children, pets and livestock were a thing of the past. As was animal control being done with a shot gun or rifle, in the hands of frustrated and fearful citizens. It is only a matter of time until these two things come to pass, and both are dangerous to our unsuspecting and unprepared community. How many animal bites or accidental shooting victims will there be, before this problem is solved. Please help us inform our fellow citizens of this situation. We as concerned citizens have gathered to form CUBBC to address all of these animal issues. There are those of us out here who have a vision and a plan for how to Build an Animal Shelter, by the Community, and For the Community. But we need your support, so that the County Government will realize that this is a serious issue, important to all of us, not just the pet owners. Everyone is encouraged to attend the next meeting of “CUBBC” Citizens United for a Better Blount County / Animal Shelter Project. The meeting is January 4th.
