What are you waiting for?

In my last blog I talked about Rules for Customers. I would just like to elaborate on one point that I made. If you come into the store I work at I am going to try my hardest to get you to buy something. I get paid to sell merchandise to you! While it does not directly affect my pay, (I don't make commisson) it does affect our store goals and sales profits if you just come in to "look" around. Employee hours are schedualed by profits. So if you come in and don't by something I'm really thinking: "Fuck you! Now I get less hours next week."

I know that I don't have a high profile or even a special job but it is how I make my living. I am thankful in these times to even have a job, so please don't belittle me by mentioning that I "only work at the mall." I have to take all the hours I can get, especially since I only make minimum wage.

Another point that ties in is that if I am extra friendly to you, it is because I want you to have a good experience and come back to my store. I'll tell you my name so that it is more personal and you feel welcome. We get graded on how we interact with customers, not only am I trying to impress you I'm trying to impress my boss!

It may not seem like a hard job but that is only because you don't know the inner workings or the hoops I have to jump through just to be able to work. Next time someone asks you for help when you don't need to just remember they are probably doing their job and you should respect that by being kind to them.

A few tips for shoppers

I work at the mall in a very popular lingerie store. And to those of you who have never worked retail before here are a few pointers for you.

1. If you come in the store you are going to be asked by numerous people if you are looking for anything. It is our JOB to sell you stuff. If you tell us you are just looking your going to be asked repeatedly.

2. Please do not be rude to us. Even if you are having a bad day taking it out on sales people will only get you talked about once you leave the store. It makes us feel bad if you are nasty when we are only trying to do our job. Just smile and say "No thank you" if you do not need assistance. Also ask us nicely for help and don't bark at us, we're not servants.

3. If we do not have something in stock don't scream. You only make an ass out of yourself. There is nothing we can do if we are out of stock except call another store. Or (if the store has the ability) order it for you on-line.

4. When waiting in line don't get pissy if you have to wait more than five minutes especially if the store is busy. There are a certain number of people stores have to have on the sales floor to assist customers and watch for shoplifters, everyone can't be at the cash registers at once. We are sorry that you have to wait and we know its unpleasant but there isn't anything we can do.

5. You are not royalty... therefor you are not entitled to special privileges. If your coupon is expired we will not take it. We will not make exceptions to the rules defined on the back of the coupon either. If you have a question ask, don't demand.

6. We are not your personal shoppers. We are happy to give you an opinion on something if you ask but we cannot spend an hour with just you if there are other customers in the store.

7. Returns. If something doesn't fit you right bring it back, but please listen to us when we tell you the return policy when you buy the item. Most items will not be taken back if worn, washed, or have the price tags removed. We understand you may not be comfortable trying on something in the store, you are welcome to take it home to try but if you take the tags off before you try it and it doesn't fit you're S.O.L. Don't come in and yell at us because the small shirt (that you should have bought in a medium) doesn't fit. Again I say YOU ONLY MAKE AN ASS OF YOURSELF. On a side note the return/refund policy is on the back of all receipts, please read it before asking a stupid question.

8. Finally we are not a babysitting service. It is not our job to watch your kids. Don't let them run wild because chances are if an employee has to ask them to stop you are going to get angry at employee for telling your child what to do. And please don't let your kids play with merchandise unless you are in a toy store.

Basically all we are asking you to do is to use common sense and realize that we are people too. We have feelings and sometimes we make mistakes, don't be so hard on us. Yes we are there to help you but courtesy goes a long way.
