printed flags

your own flag

You can, of course, use any colors, symbols, and textures to create your own flag. The first thing we need to know about is what materials you will need when making your flag. The main parts of the flag will be the fabric, the pole, and the symbol that you want to use. For fabric you can pick Cotton, Polyester, or nylon. Some fabrics are more durable than others, such as the flags that are made of heavy denim-like materials, while others are meant to flow freely in a breeze, such as the nylon flags. Depending on what your weather is like year round, you may need weatherproof fabric. Whichever you choose, make sure it is appropriate for your flag's intended overall use. You can choose your flagpole by deciding how high you would like to have your flag flown and where. Flagpoles can be iron, steel, or plastic and can exceed 200 ft tall.

Some of the custom printed flags I saw included "50% off entire store until noon!" and "Spend $100 and get a $25 gift card before 12 noon." As long as their offer included a dramatic discount offer and an associated deadline, there was a line that snaked around the store. In the past, businesses who wanted custom flags and banners would be required to place orders through a catalog, well in advance of their deadlines. But with online ordering available from some of the nation's top flag manufacturers, it is possible to get custom banners and flags created quickly and easily. For some websites, you can order specialty flags using graphic design software. Simply design a logo and other text using a program like Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop, then save it in a digital image format (.jpeg,.pdf or bitmap) and send it to the online flag company via their computerized ordering system. Now that ordering custom flags and banners is this simple, the only limitation you have is your imagination.

The most senior position for a boat flag on a vessel is at its stern. It was customary during the Roman Empire for Roman ships to carry small religious statues or puppis on the aft deck section of a ship; a sacred spot reserved for worship. You've probably heard the term "poop deck" which is the deck that forms the roof of a cabin built in the rear part of the superstructure of a ship at its stern. The stern became regarded as a place of authority and respect in the generations that followed; it was where the captain's quarters could be found. It continues to be a place of honor on a vessel to this day and it's where the national flag or derivative of it can be proudly displayed. The ensign should be flown, according to tradition, between 8:00 a.m. and sunset. If you plan to leave your boat and don't expect to return before sunset you should take it down; the ensign should never be flown at night.
