Personal

I live in Durban, /i love it here right down to the ancient town malls and despite the ever rising crime rate. I do not really know why this is, maybe it is just my sense of loyalty to the place of my existence for the past 21 years. I know it is this place that I will one day return to wherever else my pursuit of life might take me. Beside I have only been mugged once and indirectly at tha but the family car once. Ironically I live in the heart of middle income ppl. In a place called, once an indian township. I live on the periphery for right down the road across from my bedroomwindow of the two bedroom flat is a flat mass of grassy land where soccer is palyed that leads to the shanty towns. Of the 5 years I have spent here It is August, the last month of winter, an unusual shower of rain has graced the ground parched and in their communion rises the smell of warm concrete being doused. it is a smell familiar to those of Durban where even in the darkness of Wnter, temperature are in the high twenties. the people of the coast are not familiar with snow nor do they realise the brutal cold that accompanies it. On a comparatively warm winter day, I can be seen wearing long sleeved tops and a jacket on top of it unless one has taken to road running, a cold day for me is in the weak twenties. anything else would resemble a hellish nightmare. nine months a year, the beach is a frequent spot and prenially the sand and surf are visited in the dark, popular as that is. The sun awakes during the 7th hour and is lost to us by 6pm. The ppl of the land resume as always...a change in season is just another concept and an undisturbing one to us. Except for the dullness of the skin due to the lack of sun time. The brown of my skin glows moistnned by the humidity levels, the wicked wind tosses the tresses on my head, the sand exfoliates and sun rejuvinates leaving me fresh and smooth faced. How do ppl live without the sun and surf? It is the purest treatment for the skin and body and has never failed me, nothing so equisite touchs my face besides the hands of nature.. They say in Summer combined with the humidity levels, temperatures could feel like 42 degree but the highest number we have here is 33 degree on the very rarest occasion. I look forward to the heat, I am comfortable in it but I cannot complain about the winter except for the fact that I hav never seen snow. As a coastal zone, I guess there are more leisurely types here than inland. The temptation is too great, the calling too persuasive. Sadly beach front properties cost not only an arm an a leg but sometimes even ur bank account but then again u cant exaclty build a gatewayto the ocean in the middle of Jobrg. Nor can u transport the moist wind and ship it to the kalahari desert. Literally, u just cant buy it, sure u can buy the property next to the beach but even today in the world of commercialism, no one sells durbans beaches, just the property closest. Laid back and loving it.
