HMFIC Yall's blog: "Stuff goin on"

oh goodie its fall

I think it's oficially fall. Finally! Having previously lived in the northern half of this state, I was used to fall starting much earlier, and as a result, winter. So when I moved down to the Twin Cities, I used to joke that I was screwed out of two months of winter -- It always came a month later than I was used to, and left a month earlier. Well, last weekend, when I was up north, fall was certainly here, as it was cold, and almost all the leaves had changed. Back down here, however, not so much. It's still slated to be in the seventies on Monday, which in my book is absurdly too hot for fall, but I don't think it'll ever get that warm again for the year 2006. At least, that's what I'm hoping for. I really do like the fall, if you haven't guessed. I think summers are fine, until about the middle of June, and then I've had enough. I guess I really don't like warm weather all that much. Especially down here in the Twin Cities, where there is no gigantic lake to get relief. We had something like 19 days over 90 degrees this summer, and that was way too much. I think my ideal temperature is about 65, and anything above it is way to warm. Attribute that to my scandinavian roots, I suppose. Speaking of that, I can't believe the most idiotic thing my geography professor mentioned yesterday. She was lecturing on the ethnic makeup of the Twin Cities, and how it got that way, arguing that despite long held traditions that St. Paul was settled predominantly by the Irish (Thank you, Gov. Jesse Ventura for your comments to the effect on national TV), it really was mostly settled by the Germans and the Scandinavians. Then she went on to say that the Scandinavians were actively recruited to North and South Dakota because the railroads had made tracks out there but had no one to bring the trains to, hence they needed that land settled so they could make a profit. Ok, that's all true, and it makes sense. Then she goes on to state that 'well, the Scandinavians liiked to move out there because it reminded them of their homeland from where they came.' Excuse me? I'm sorry, I've been to Norway, and I've been to North Dakota...and they don't look anything alike! Hmmmmm, let's see, Norway: Mountains, Fjords, lots of trees, right on the north sea...and North Dakota: flat, prairie, not a stick of water anywhere, oh yeah, a perfect match! And my friends wonder why I hate school so much...
