What are you waiting for?

Interesting week. Is it illustrative of my luck or my negligence? To begin, I was fired this week. I'll pause here for gasps and/or the perplexed furrowing of brows. Here's how this happened: Apparently, there's this company policy about having too much money in your drawer at the end of a shift. In addition to the $40 that has to be left in the drawer, I had $250. That, for the record, is too much. Although, I would have only had $200 if my manager hadn't pulled $50 out of the safe to break a $100 bill. This $50, that I had to account for and pay back to the safe. When this singular event took place, I was less than 2 hours away from completing my shift. During this time, I was bombarded with customers, giving me little time to think, much less drop money (forgive me if I don't want to pull money out and count it by the hundreds in front of customers). A note could have been made on my behalf, but that was too much effort, I suppose. It may seem like I'm passing the buck on this one, but I'm not sure who would be passing the buck on this occasion - myself or the manager. These issues may have been excused, had it not been for the fact that during my shift, a store audit team was on hand, which also meant the district manager was as well. She witnessed these issues (after the fact, of course) and flipped, demanding write-ups and termination. Therefore, I am terminated. I pick up my check today, thinking, "well, at least I can pay my bills". Oh, how we count our eggs. I go to get a simple oil change, and I'm immediately informed of other things my car needs. I ask for an estimate on how much these "needs" were going to run me, and I am told roughly $278 (oil change included). My check this week was $271. $5 was taken out by the bank for a check cashing fee, and I'd just bought about $15 in gas. I get him to run down the perscribed list again, and ask him how much a few of these things would be. After pondering briefly, I tell him the services I would be willing (or more accurately, able) to accept. It runs me about $180. But I do not doubt now that I needed them, as my car has been running quite efficiently since they were completed. Now I'm down to $50. I go to work the one job I have left tonight and discover too late that one component that I need to do my job is missing. My brother took it early last week and failed to return it to me. So I'll be spending about 12 hours at Plastic Omnium tomorrow. Will I be calling my brother to find the missing piece? Absolutely not. I can improvise. The cherry on the top of all this is that my controller for Guitar Hero has broken on me. Therefore, no more shredding the plastic axe. But all of this has not left me disheartened. I still have 2 paychecks to pick up this week - one from my brother, and one from the store. My bills will be paid. I also attended an orientation for substitute teaching this week, which I will most likely begin in January. The worst that might happen is that I'll need to suspend my internet service for a month. So as Walter Sobchak repeatedly reminds his friend, "Nothing is fucked here, Dude. Nothing is fucked."
