What are you waiting for?
It occurred to me today that opening doors brings a lot of pleasure to a lot of people. What I mean is, it makes one feel good to open a door for someone or hold a door open. There's an almost impercetible feeling of well being gleaned from the process... a little smile, a thank you. A moment shared between two people that have maybe never even spoken before. It works the other way too. If a door is held open for you it gives you a warm feeling that a person took the trouble.
The point of my story is: In the 23rd or the 24th century in Star Trek, all doors seem to be automatic, opening in front of anyone who draws near. This is possibly a generation of people who have never experienced the joy of door opening. It must be a somehow more hollow world.
Cycling home from work today I came off my bike... doing a fair speed I might add. The thing that'll I'll remember from today, though, more so than the pain, is that I was reminded of a sensation I haven't experienced in many years. The feeling to which I refer is that during the time one flies through the air with the hard street getting ever closer, there seems to be an abundant amount of time in which to consider "fuck this is gonna hurt!" before the impact actually occurs... It's a confusing phenomenon... always was. It makes me feel nostalgic about the good old days.
As I lay in the street a woman was walking past with her dog. She immediately rushed up to me asking "Are you Ok?" At which point, of course, I bounced straight up, smiling, and said "Yep, yep, completely fine thank-you." As soon as she'd gone past and couldn't see me anymore I doubled over impersonating those scenes from Family Guy when Peter has fallen and hurt his knee... you know the ones I mean? Then I had to laugh at myself. Why do I feel the need to pretend I'm made of steel and cannot be harmed? It's not just me right? Is that a man thing?
After years of trying to come up with the right idea I think I've finally hit on a winner... I'm gonna open up a shop selling nothing but hot cakes. I thought about having a more expansive product range, but then I figured why lose focus when surely hot cakes are the only product guaranteed to sell bucket loads, whatever the customer base or whatever the economic climate.... As I understand it, they sell like hot cakes. I've never heard anyone report any different so how could it possibly fail?
I know this should probably be a stash entry, but if I stashed it I realise also that no one would ever see it. It has been known for an 'alternative' kind of music to catch my ear - The kind of music that I would not normally consider listening to. Often it's for no apparent reason. Sometimes it is to the great annoyance of the people around me. The last time this happened it was the piano stylings of Maksim Mrvica, a man who I now consider to be a musical genius, incidentally. This time it is Gregorian. They are a German band that fuse traditional Gregorian chants with musical accompaniment. Most of this music is their own unique take on various modern pop songs. Indulge me, if you will, and feast on the glory that is Gregorian...
