I have a 3 1/2 y.o. rotweiller who was diagnosed with heart failure 4 months ago. Fluid causes abdomin to swell and causes him to be uncomfortable, like we would feel with bloating, and had lost a lot of muscle mass. The vet felt like that was the beginning of the end and put him on 2 weeks of meds to see if would help. It did, and fluid all gone and muscle mass returned. The vet stated that he had never seen a dog recover like this and at the rate he did. He has had another spell and not coming out of this one. Has increased his meds which has not helped. We decided to let him die at home since he is not in any pain, if so I would definitly put him down when time was right. He still eats good and gets around good, and the thought of putting him down for being uncomfortable is something I can't come to terms with. Chances are that he's not going to get better, even though I keep hoping he'll beat the odds again. What would you do....keep in mind that he is part of the family and very special to us. |
