Summon Elemental's blog: "IRISH?"

created on 09/20/2006  |  http://fubar.com/irish/b4454
Yeah so, I'm a musician, not "another musician" ...I'm an "Etheric" style rocker, creating a genre called "Ghost-Rock" ...It's about the Supernatural & the studies of it, related to life in everyone. It's sound-design is very earthly & medieval'esque, not urban nor modern. It's very bright, I hardly go dark, but there are peaks & valleys, with allot of POWER, but no noise at all. It's NOT Metal, NOT Punk, NOR is it Rap, it's just a new style of rock music, very classic-based, but never done before, I swear! The riffs/tunes are not very short, repetitive, nor predictable. Why Supernatural? Well, there are things that Science can't explain, & wont explain.... Like "Black Holes" ...Scientist have tried & keep trying to measure this, but they have came to the conclusion that it CAN'T BE DONE. "Dark Matter"& "Dark Energy" they refer to this in theory... I found ways to include such mysteries of the World within. We all wonder "WHY"? I've been working on this stuff since 1996 for certain. I'm tired of talking about it, everyone else is sick of me saying it. I can't find musicians to play my instrument sections. Everyone wants to sound like their favorite artist & copy them, well not me. I have all the instruments & recording equipment. I wrote all the music, I'm a solo musician, I just need a band to work for me! Sorry, I can't stand the sound of "tin-can-tone" Drum-sounds of today. I hate dropped-detuned over-bassy Guitars. I hate lousy singers without articulate talent. I hate cleashays or "cliches"... I like vintage sound-effects like sqeeky buzzy fuzzes. I like exotic bronze percussion when needed. I like HUGE DRUMS like more powerful than the 1980's. AND REAL, No synthesizors at all! No digital effect either. The lyrics are basically about ancient "Supernatural warfare" related to modern day life, in a timless attempt. If we get a better understanding for all ancestor's pasts, then we wont continue to repeat "bad history" ...Allot of research, I involved. It may seem creepy, but it's really just a temporary face, until everyone gets use-to it. It's real ghostly & not one of those things when someone will claim it's something that it isn't. I will actually get specific in DETAILS if I have to SHOVE them into the listener's faces, per topic. Whenever I tell people about it, ...I got someone who said "You will probably be just like the _________" ....NO NOT AT ALL. I wont. I only prefer to do things my own way, plus I could write music like everyone else, but I wouldn't be any good at it, rather blending into the MASS MAJORITY if I did. Many many many artists now, are trying to be "vintage" & no matter what they do, it sounds new, like it was released recently. Like the disco "raining hi-hats" in every emo-whatever song, like "Franz Ferdinand" & "Killers" do that. Then some other bands like "Queens Of The Stoneage" will try to use modernized fuzz-effects on guitars, then replicate a vintage note arrangement as if they are affraid to use it in a NEW SENSE! They are tryng to do something that's been done! I'm not saying that they're bad to listen to, just that they don't deserve awards for any originality. That goes for anyone trying to sound like "Jimi Hendrix" today, when he's "him" & not "now" ...not saying that I dislike "him" but just leave it to "him". I could name a bunch of rare equipment & exotic instruments I have. Quality & not quantity, I'm not rich! Also, when someone nowadays says "exotic instruments" they'll think of "Sitar" ....Not me, try "Bronze C***** C********" long story.... TOP SECRET GIMMICK! I don't really hate so many bands as I claim at times. I'm actually very glad that 'no-one' is doing what I am doing. What I hate, is when people 'worship' a sound repeated that really isn't speacial, like the "KoRn sound" ...so many copycats have been doing their sound since 1996. I actually think "KoRn" is okay, but not when the copycats "PLAGUE" the sound around too much. It's just not very special, their sound, but their "SONGS" & "MELODIES" are what the big-deal should be, not their "Drop-detuned guitar-GIMMICK"!! Or when artists recreate "TOOL" ...Look, leave the 'emotions' & 'intensions' from that singer, to himself, I don't care who sounds just like them, it's just not the same if you recreate someone else's 'emotions' ...they aren't yours, even if you agree with them, they didn't come from 'you' & your 'creation'! I know I'm gonna have people copy my sound. I probably shouldn't even type any of this paragraph, there are too many "musicians" who are STARVING FOR NEW IDEAS, & I've got allot of gimmicks just waiting to be ruined by these poor excuses for "musicians" or "artists". There will be people buying "Synthesizers" to "emulate" my exotic-percussion, since they wont know where to purchase the REAL THING! Then they will be combing the Earth for vintage 1960s FUZZ effects to have my Guitar tone.. WHAT I HATE........ When I go to a Music-Store to shop for "GEAR" ...I can't ever find what I need, luckily I already have my STUFF!! So I can't go to a local music-store like "Guitar Center" or "House Of Guitars" for replacement "FUZZ-processors" if I lost my vintage ones.... And luckily I have a lil electronics background, I have the 'schematic-diagrams' of these 'units' so I can RE-BUILD them if I have to.. Once I did, for the heck of it, it sounded better homemade!! I like the 80's, but I don't try to sound like ANYONE from it. I just "ENGINEER" my sound design off of a more solid sound, that happens to fit any 80's perfect-recording methods. I don't even have the best equipment, but I do have enough of 'goodies' that today's bands wont be able to use, nor get their hands on!! Long story, & I really hope you're not sick of hearing about it yet.... I really have been saying these lines for too long, I even lost friends who were once in my band because I couldn't get my act together, fast enough for their impatient lives! My influences are "things I hate" that cause me to write music to "combat" them. Like if I hear "lousey music" ..I want to create something that will "up-stage" their "junk"! **** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** I'm not an experiemental-musician. I already know what I am looking for in each method I use to portray each individual design. My songs don't all sound the same, I have multiple sub-genres within mine. I have allot more than just acoustic stuff. I have mostly rock, but sometimes it gets "tribal" ..but that's what the category is supposed to be called, & I don't mean "African-tribal" at all... Not that African is bad or anything, just no what I'm after. As far as 'Medieval' is, I only have one "Minstrel-song" I'm still working on... I confess, I get allot of criticism.... People say SOME of my songs sound like "Church Hymns" ..very miserable ones played in Catholic Masses!! ...That's because I had a reason for some of my songs to sound "folk-style".. I've been called "Sacreligious" for those songs alone.. With eerie theologic topics, I wouldn't know if that style is listed as "Doom Folk" ...but in these days, things usually get a title it doesn't deserve, so i'm re-naming it. As far as "Franz & Killers " go, they WISH they were the 80's... Because back in the 80's, musicians didn't try to sound like "THE 80's" they didn't realize they were gonna be a "sound of their time ONLY" ...They were trying to be creative & write MELODIES, unlike "Franz' & whoever. Modern types will try to replicate, but forget or overlook some MAJOR DETAIL that's extremely necessary besides GIMMICKS, like ACTUAL MUSIC!! The 90's were very DRY, & quick about things. I'm just glad those days are over with. I know that some good things came from it, but there was so much lost, by the time that era arrived. That includes technology got cheaper & budgeted. I don't overlook things much...& certainly never the way they did back then.... I used to HATE EVERYTHING back then. I will admit that rarely I have. I'm actually guilty of sounding 80's in certain POWERFUL means. Only because I'm trying to get every instrument to sound BIG & standing out, very preceding of everthing. The 80's were supposed to sound CLEAN, CLEAR, & EVEN, and it was not supposed to be cheezy! But from time to time, things didn't always turn out according to plan, that's where you get people talking!! ...I don't have any examples of the 80's of my simmilarities, just that if I released my stuff, it might match the 80's. I'm also guilty of SOMETIMES sounding like I recorded from the 1950s too, like the theme-song to "Zorro"(50's-60's) & "Scarecrow Of Romney Marsh"(60's) it's rather funny in certain ways, I'll record on some old-grade Reel-To-Reel (TAPE) equipment with Sound-over-Sound, Echo-Feedback looping delay.... Analog creepiness where needed, sometimes my equipment accidently sounds like those early "Scoobie Doo" episodes from 1969-70. I don't use computers to record, I do everything the hard way!! ------------------------------------------------------------- [RECORDING PROCESS]: I'm putting it on every format I can get my hands on. So far, I'm editing with a digital 8-track multitrack recorder, it's 16-bit-resolution with 44.1KHz sampling rate, just like a CD. So far CDs are all I have to put it on. I have reel to reel tapes, & other obscure devices, I don't think the average listener cares.... So "CD" it is. The thing that takes so long, is that I have to make a parallel signal recording on an entirely different piece of equipment. All my intrument signals get sent to a 'mixer' then they get sent to 2 things, (1)the digital multitrack-device, & (2) an analog tape deck that records fast at high-speed while taking up more tape space, just to get highest fidelity (3.25 inches per second) on High-Bias Metal/Chrome tapes unlike the cheapo-tapes that people dislike! I 'edit' on the digital stuff. I 'archive' everything separately on those backup tapes, because one day, "digital" technology might become as good as "analog" technology, then I can take these tracks & make a better recording & synchronize them a different way. Analog is perfect & real. Digital is fake, aliased, artifacted, & dogs know it isn't real, some human ears can tell too, some people figure out that digital has limits of realism, the more they listen to it. It took me a while, I was almost satified with digital, now I disciminate. ---------------------------------------------------------- Recording at "DiRtY Horror's" house 10-13-05 Category: Music I figured to pick one of his current resdidential locations, such as the usual haunted downtown historical "Victorean" mansions converted to apartments, in Buffalo NY. Yes, this house where I am typing this message, has some appartions of early 1900's era. There are allot of green & blue 'orbs' spotted here by him. I'm recording real 'cuts' to be used as both archive, demo, & releases. I get a great feel for the supernatural over here. Perfect portal for this type of music, if ya know what I mean... It gets drafty with chills up in the west tower windows. The fresh fall air out here, with clean linen, great food, & everything all the people who don't come here enough, miss out on!!! You should have seen the sunset as well! So I hauled allot of my recording-equipment & instruments over here. I set up, & warmed the tubes & diodes with an eerie "_____" whatever notes I don't want to list until I get it copyrighted soon... The vaccuum-tubes burn regularly to maintain the correct electrical properties to function, just as the trees themselves are on-fire, burning in the "Spirit World"... The germanuim-diodes within the transistorized fuzz-effect circuit, (60s-design) is tempurature-sensitive. So, if I get any sign of ghosts found within the magnetic-signals within the very high-bias chromium-dioxide tapes, then I'll know what the variation is of the sound sources. Ghosts can tend to haunt the atmosphere, within various "inbetween-zones" within analog-means. The supernatural activity, travels in patterns, conductors, & portals (technically) inbetween the mortal Natural-World & the immortal Supernaural-World. I have yet to play back the tapes... I'm very satisfied with this project! Let's just say that it feels more like HALLOWEEN when you are with the RIGHT PEOPLE! Therefor it's better being in places & being with people who have the right idea. I told him this morning "Your microwave looks like a horror movie on the inside" ...with all the crumbs & decay that have been neutralized through series of radiation, he replies "Thanks!"!!!! Gotta love him! Anyways, you all know how to find him on my friend-list. He Buffalo's biggest "Horror-Punkrock" genre'ist in town. He's been on MySpace for a long while, so he's usually on the front page of allot of people's profiles, including mine! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [] Also recording at Football-fields, Highschool-Gyms, & Farms: Ive taken my equipment portably to certain places, to get the atmosphere & "spirit" to add "life" to my recordings. I use a 12VDC battery to power-up my Power-Inverter to have an outlet of 120VAC (1000-2000W) portably whenever I have no receptical to plug into. It's quite fun doing this, people don't bother me, people don't even ask! I've workied out a deal with the local Town Departments of Education. I have a permit now, to record on facilities issued out to me, privately on a given schedule. Sometimes a small fee is required. It's great to get the atmosphere from those certain buildings, such as classrooms, gyms, & semi-soundproof music studios which are updates built within/into school's music-programs these days. Lucky me! Energy levels are high, on historical feel. These buildings are very old. Imagine all the students, throughout the decades & generations how they've walked these halls. And maybe some haunt those halls... The farms & forests are my personal favorite. I'm so far away from everyone everywhere. You have to be a "country bumpkin" to have residency in these spots. You have to travel quite some inconvenient distances to catch up to where I'm setting up. It's not for all the suburban, urban people who find dirt-roads as a detour to their life plans, ya lasey people! Well I'm having fun! Nothing can ruin this!!!
