Logitech redefines gaming mice with their latest gamer-oriented mouse
The Logitech G9 is nothing to scoff at among the wide range of gaming mice. At first it may have been considered just a large gimmick with it's adjustable weights and two different grips but are actually very solid features. The custom click-on grips are a fresh breath to the gaming-mouse world. Nothing has been introduced like it yet, and this author was very impressed by it's implementation. While it took some time to get used to, it was an feature that is hard to stop using. In the middle of an intense gaming session I found myself switching between the two grips actively and found myself gaining an advantage between the two for different uses. The G9's true innovation is, as stated above, the custom grips. Logitech has hinted that it will be releasing more grips for the G9 (no dates have been mentioned) in the future, which will add a large list of different styles, shapes, and textures to the G9's functionality. A little bit of background. Before the G9 this author was using a Razer Diamondback as a high-performance mouse, and before that an MX510. I decided not to upgrade from my Diamondback to the G5 because of the single dumb button, which was a huge mistake on Logitech's part which they corrected with it's section version of the G5, but now that the G9 has been launched it makes the G5 and (literally) every other gaming mouse on the market look poor and shoddy. The on-board memory is outstanding and very easy to set up through the software that came with the G9. For once mouse drivers that aren't horrid! It even came with macro support and would save pre-defined macros to the onboard memory, which was a plus. For those of you who are behind the times, on-board mouse memory allows users to save profiles (Mouse sensitivity, button configurations, and basically any and all mouse settings) to their actual mouse, which means the user can take his or her mouse to any other PC and the mouse will have it's previous settings to select from. No need to install mouse software on any other computer again! Another feature of this mouse is the weights. While "some" people may enjoy a stiff-as-nails mouse with no custom features to be seen or heard, I love being able to tinker with my hardware! This mouse comes with a cartridge in which you can put in weights to make the mouse feel heavier or lighter! For me, this is a godsent. Being able to make my gaming mouse heavy gives it body and movement weight, which leads to better accuracy. Once you've gotten used to the weights and remove them, the mouse is as light as a feature. I've never been one to frantically worship products, however this time I will make an exception and say this is the best mouse I have ever used and I suggest it to everyone.
Pros Revolutionary grip design Mousing Weights On-the-fly sensitivity changes Wonderful button positioning useful macro software Onboard memory Cons Only 2 grips at the moment Could come with heavier weights Changing profiles without software can be confusing
Final: This mouse is the mouse to end all mice. Period. *****/***** (5/5)
