The lights went faint
out on street eighteen
They flickered and flashed
‘til the sky went green
There I was
in the dawn of eve
Nothing but my guitar
and my wanting to leave
So I caught the next train
hoping to make it home
Dazeled by a lime sky
on the streets I roam
It was almost midnight
when I heard that man fall
Twelve miles away
but I heard his voice call
“Oh darling!
Hear my one last cry
Come home to me
with wings you fly.”
I flew to that man
knowing we’ve been apart
With thunder in my soul
and wisdom in my heart
I went back to that man
like waves return to sea
That man holds the love
that was meant for me
And the lights were radiant
with an emerald blaze
As I wandered home
In my mind’s own haze
