Leopards facts
•Leopards generally live to about 12 years of age in the wild and up to 20
years in captivity.
• All black or melanistic leopards, sometimes commonly called Black
Panthers, are born in the same litter as spotted cats and also carry the
rosette markings, although these are masked by the darkness of the fur.
• Each leopard has its own spot pattern, just as people have different
fingerprints.
• The average life span for a leopard in the wild ranges from 10-15 years.
In captivity they have been known to live to 20 years.
• Leopards are capable of carrying prey 2-3 times their own weight up into
trees.
• There are three different species of cats called "leopard": Leopard
(Panthera Pardus), Clouded Leopard (Neofelis Nebuulosa), and the Snow
Leopard (Uncia Uncia).
