kayleigh’s departure from this mortal coil...
today, sweet kayleigh, almost 20 years of age, left the physical world and slept into infinity...
she who has been such a beautiful and engaging friend and family member, who had been rescued from an unsavoury breeder, who had been rejected by the ones who'd bought her the first time, found here a home and the love equal to that which she had to give.
she had grown thin these past months and, tests narrowing down the possibilities for her condition to a point where educated guesses were applied, the reality became one where there was nothing they could do for her, especially at her age.
last night i slept with her as usual, and some unusual things happened. the hope was that she would die in her sleep, though that proved to not be the case. yet last night, sleeping in fits, i chanced to reach out at one point to touch her, and discovered she was not breathing, and there was no heartbeat. i started to lifet her and saw she was completely stiff, ie rigor mortis had set in. moments later her body suddenyl relaxed and she was breathing, and her heart was beating again. as i stroked her fur she started to purr as well...
a few more times i would reach out only to feel no heart beating, for a few moments at least, before it would start up, as would her breathing...it seemed this was occurring when i would touch her...
kayleigh considered me her favourite, and as such accorded me special attention, such as reaching out with her paw-read finely honed claws-to touch my face,,,in particular my eyelids and then my mouth, etc...having a claw tugging at my eyelid was a less than pleasant sensation, yet for her this was a normal way of showing affection...
such a beautiful individual, kayleigh is already missed; she brought to us such love, which was reciprocated by all who met her
wait for me kayleigh-when my time comes i will surely join you....
