For every person that has, is, and will live on this earth, there is a definition of friendship. Each person knows what their personal definition is, but do the friends of each person know that definition?
Each person has many roles in their life -- wife, husband, mother, father, sister, brother, daughter, son, aunt, uncle, cousin, and the list goes on. Is not the role of friend the most important, because one chooses the friends but cannot choose the family?
Those one chooses and gives the coveted title of friend to is in effect choosing a type of family, yes, but these family members have no blood relation and therefore are free to come and go so they mean so very much more to us.
If we break down the word FRIEND to each letter, we can begin with my definition.
F -- faithful. A friend is faithful to you in good times and bad. A faithful friend stands by you when you need them and when you don't. The faithful friend is also honest and trustworthy.
R -- reliable. A friend is reliable and won't let you down. You can always count on the friend to stand by what they say.
I - interest. A friend shows interest in the minor details of your life. Wanting to know the who, what, when, where, why, and how of each thing that affects you.
E -- endless. A friend's time and concern is endless for you. A friend is always there when you need them and are concerned for your welfare.
N -- never-ending. The good and bad times are never ending. Be it fun, happy, joyous, sad, weepy, or mournful.
D -- defends. A friend will defend you in your absence or stand beside you and assist you in defending yourself.
These things are, of course, only the tip of the iceberg. There are so many facets to a friend. I can only hope that I consistently give these endless gifts to those I call friend.
To you, my friend, I wish you every happiness, every desire filled, and eternal love. My dear friend, I beg you never to forget the love I feel for you, because of the special gifts you have given me, by calling me your friend.
