 We All Die

                           By: Tina Louise W.

"You are such a fucking hypocrite!," screamed Pamela.

"Well if you weren't always being a cunt I wouldn't have to resort to being a dick now would I?" Ben said in a flat tone.

  "Fu-"

"No fuck you Pam, I'm sick of your shit."

The Andersons... typical family in the local hell of Nashtown suburbia. Sure they have their bad points but also their good. You know?? Take their kids for a walk in the park on a leash, push the dog on the swings-set, have their holier-than-thou perception on others, laugh at the expense of one's misery. Yes, a normal life.

It wasn't that the family is odd, well not all of them. It was that the mother was nuttier than a half eaten payday melting on a summer afternoon. Pamela would be the sweetest woman in the world unless she didn't have her swiss army knife keychain. From what is known, this keychain was given to her by her mother which told her, "Always keep this by your side or you will surely die." It is said that after her mother dropped it in her hand she died instantly.

One afternoon Pamela, her husband and their 9 yr. old daughter decided to rent a cottage in the mountains about 30 miles from where they live like they do every year.. It's quite desolate in the tree hidden cottage. Shrubs line the cottage, rose bushes are in bloom with the smell of the river floating in the air. The cottage in itself a beautiful work of art. Two stories, with several windows edged with blue and white paint.

Argueing as always, Pamela and Benjamin were having a big fallout. One that would change their life forever.

"Well you know what Pammy, all you do is bitch and moan at me and are fucking obsessed with that stupid fucking keychain," Ben continued, "if you paid half the attention to our daughter as you did to that keychain maybe she wouldn't become as head-fucked as you are."

"You leave Cindy out of this you asswipe!"

"Oh, you mean you still remember her name?"

  "Fuck you."

"We haven't done that in three years. I'd be better off fucking that tree stump over there."

"A stump is exactly how I'd describe what you have to offe-"

Ben grabbed Pam by the hair and started choking her. She struggled to get free, but instead of killing her, he grabbed the keychain out of her hands and laughed. Fire blazed into her eyes like crimson beaming off a fine buffed ruby. Before she could stop him, he threw it over the mountain-side. Pamela leaped after it, falling to her death never to be heard from again.

  -Two years later-

"Are you sure you want to come up here sweetie?" Ben asked.

"Yes Daddy." Cindy said, "I love it up here at the cottage. I miss it."

Ben and Cindy settled in the cottage after a day full of activities. They went hiking, swimming, fishing, and had alot of bonding time as parent and child do, but, Ben was having a strange feeling being back up at that cottage... and for good reason.

It's about 1 o'clock in the morning, lying in bed Ben hears light footsteps creaking up the stairwell of the small cottage. As the footsteps become louder, he lets out small gasps of fear. Could his estranged wife lived through that fatal fall two years ago and come back?

Ben leans over the bed to reveal his wife's swiss army knife keychain that he pretended to throw over the mountain just two years prior along with a 9mm, safety on, white knuckle gripped it and crept to the door fully guarded.

Louder and louder the footsteps fell until there's silence that seem to have stopped at the door. A few minutes pass then, the doorknob jiggles back and forth before bursting open, letting in the smell of Jagereed, Pamela's favorite perfume. The sounds of breathing engulf the room in the mountain silence.

The wooden floor of the cottage once again begin to creak as a form comes into the room. Full of fright, Ben begins to stab and pistolwhip the form repeatedly. Blood sprays the room, along with the picture of his wife, his daughter and himself next to the cottage two years ago.

"Why won't you just fuckin' die!" Ben screams.

With that being said, a small plastic cup rolls to Ben's feet, that he notices as his daughter, Cindy's. Horrified, Ben bursts into tears, then rage, breaking everything in the room with the weapons in hand.

In his madness, Ben trips over the limp body of his precious young daughter. Snapping back into reality for an instant, he grabs onto his daughter tightly, rocking her back and forth humming rock-a-bye-baby.

Feeling a small hot breath on his neck from his daughter's lips, a soft whisper escapes her mouth. "I love you Daddy." Ben looks down into Cindy's once love-filled eyes that're now lifeless, chest no longer taking in air, blood still pouring from her head.

  "Fucking Christ Forgive me!"

Ben takes the safety off the trigger, sets it into his mouth and pulls the trigger, dropping the swiss army knife keychain.

The police arrive three days later.

"Shame." one of the cops stated, "Write it up. Look at this mess.. Crazy fuckers."

One of the cops picked up the swiss army knife and set it in their pocket, unknowing what luck it truely brings to the owner.
