This female friend of mine has the worst possible luck with men. She found a wonderful guy last Feb: tall, strong, attractive, passionate, romantic... perfect, right? But then she found out about his problem with controlled substances. When he takes something, he always takes enough to black out, and then transforms into a complete psycho. In this state, he has gone as far as to threaten to kill himself and once attempted to kill them both.
Finally, in early Dec 2008, the last straw broke and she kicked him out, thanks in no small part to the urging of her friends (including me). He moved in with her father about 45 minutes away. But later that month, when she was visiting her father for Christmas, her father snapped for no apparent reason and kicked out both her and the guy. Feeling bad for him because was essentially homeless, she let him stay temporarily with her until he could find a place. Old habits crept back in, and they started doing couple things again. 3 weeks later, he blacked out again and just went off the deep end, forcing her to call the police and have him arrested. During the next week or so, he threatened her and made hateful remarks about her being fat and ugly, she doesn't deserve him, and he was going to enjoy having sex with a more attractive woman. It was all mean and uncalled for, but some of it was immature and even comical in how pathetic it was.
Shortly after she told me about all this, she vanished into thin air. For almost a month, I would call and text her, and I got no answer at all. I eventually asked her friend if she was okay, if I had made her angry or uncomfortable with something I had said. Why was she avoiding me? Because she was back with this guy. So, this leads me to the question of the mumm. Should I try one more time to help her come to the realization that she deserves better than to have to deal with Mr. Hyde half the time in order to have Dr. Jekyll the other half of the time, or is it not worth the effort and the pain that I would have to put into it? |
