We had a meeting yesterday at the firehouse,the chief informed us there was now a position opened on our shift. The position is 1st lieutenant and right now I am 2nd lieutenant with more sonority. This means I stand a very good chance of being promoted if the chief is fair.He asked me how I would feel about being promoted and of course I said I'd love to be. However after the meeting I began to encounter a different side of those who were suppose to be my brothers and which I hadn't seen before. Therefore I began to question myself thinking if this position is given to me, I then would have to deal with an interminable amount of derogatory remarks daily. Apparently the guys feel I'm unqualified and the position should be given to one of them instead.
What should I do, do I fight for my rightful position, or should I stand by and let them give it to a less deserving male? |
