There are poems to recite and songs to sing
And dances to be danced in a fairy ring
By the light of the moon while the crickets sing
In the days and the nights of high summer.
There are fish to be caught and dreams to be dreamed
And wonderful wonderful schemes to be schemed
There are flags and banners to be streamed
In the days and the nights of high summer
As the days of August run on their way
Rushing past Assumption day
When the reality of time draws away,
In the days and the nights of high summer.
The questions arise from the rational one,
“What was accomplished under the sun
From June ‘till now my poetic one
In the days and the nights of high summer?’.
The answer rings out loud and clear
“Why not a bloody thing my dear
For this is a time for fun and cheer
These days and nights of high summer.”
When the fierce winds of winter blow
And the world is clogged with ice and snow
My heart will remember and start to glow,
Like in the days and the nights of high summer.
