Harry ‘Frank’ Whaples, World War II veteran Harry “Frank” Whaples, 79, of Rehoboth Beach, passed peacefully from his residence into the loving arms of Jesus Christ his Savior, Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006, after a difficult battle with cancer. He was born in Wilmington, Feb. 16, 1927, son of the late Fredrick N. Whaples and the late Nina Hastings Whaples Bird. Frank was born, raised and lived in Delaware all his life. He served three years in the Navy’s South Pacific Fleet during World War II and as an Army Airborne squad leader in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a member of the American Legion Post 28 as well as the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 7234, where he was part of the honor guard. He was an avid Phillies fan, but even more so he enjoyed playing softball for Delmarva’s Olde Tymers Softball League. Frank was a born-again Christian and an active member of the First Baptist Church of Lewes. He will be dearly and lovingly missed by his wife of 49 years, Liv Hegdal Whaples; his sons, Franklin Lee and his wife Jodie of Dotham, Ala. and Jack Booth and his wife Cindy of Michigan; his daughters, Lori Ann Citro of Newark, Carrie Lynn Heldmann and her husband Richard of Brandiburg, N.J., and Tina Kay Tessein of Newark; 10 grandchildren, Michael E. Tessein and his wife Ebony, Marc E. Tessein, Mallory Tessein, Joey Conner, Julie A. Citro, Ethan Citro, Kelsey Doughton, Anton Heldmann, Joseph Heldmann and Franklin William Whaples; one great-granddaughter, Michaela Tessein; four sisters, Ruth Schirmer, Madelyn Mills, Evelyn Cahall and Cathy Shutak; and many nieces and nephews here in the USA and in Norway. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son James Booth. Frank’s wife and his children would like to extend their gratitude for the prayers, cards and outreach of love that has been shown to them through a sad time in their lives. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 18, at the First Baptist Church of Lewes, 1001 Kings Highway, with Pastor David Munro officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church of Lewes, address above, or to Delaware Hospice, 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes. .
