Marie's blog: "Games for Parties"

*Baby Shower Intruder

The host’s teen daughter will not be present at the beginning of the shower, but will show up for the first game. The teen will begin the skit by "barging" in on the event dressed strangely (you can decide how) and wanting to join in the party. She is wearing a large purse or satchel (important) carrying "goodies".

The host is upset by the interruption and demands to see the teen’s invitation. The teen sits on the floor and begins taking "goodies" out of the purse one by one and placing them on the floor. The "goodies" are baby items.

Finally she finds the invitation and shows it to the host. The host is satisfied with the invitation and says she can stay. The teen packs up her purse and joins the party.

Now the guests have to write down every "goodie" the teen had in her purse. Whoever guesses the most correct items is the winner.

This is a fun game, and no one "tries" hard to remember the items because they don't expect a game. Also, the mom-to-be gets to keep all the "goodies" in the bag!

*Piggy Bank Challenge

(Materials: piggy bank, money)

Fill up a cute piggy bank with change and dollars for playing the game. Make sure you know how much is placed in the bank. Have everyone shake the bank as well as make a guess on how much is in the piggy bank. The closest one wins a baby shower gift (or centerpiece) while the mommy-to-be gets the piggy bank as a gift along with the money which will help with the new parents to be! A functional baby shower game!

*Baby Shower Lotto

(Materials- Calendar with large calendar month dates, highlighter pen, and normal pen).

Have the calendar of the month that the mother-to-be's baby is due at the front door for guests when they arrive. Each day is divided into two parts: am and pm for the guests to choose from in picking the date and general time the baby will be born. Make sure to have the due date highlighted. Guests can "buy in" to a lotto ticket for a certain day (am or pm) that they think the baby will be born. The guest who guesses closest wins a baby shower gift, of course given after the baby is born. The fun part of the game is that the lotto tickets can be purchased by using something other than money that is useful to the parents. Instruct guests beforehand that a lotto tickets may be purchased with a diaper pack, baby bottles or baby wipes, etc

What’s the Story?

* You'll need

Lists of words related to and unrelated to babies

Pens and paper

Create a list of 10 words related to babies, such as "nursery," "bottles," "diapers." * Create a list of 10 words that have nothing to do with babies, such as "chainsaw," "automotive store," "arrested," and "beer."

Make copies of both lists for all the guests

* Party Time

Distribute both word lists, paper, and pens to each guest.

Give guests five minutes to write a story that includes all 20 words.

Take turns reading the hilarious stories out loud. The person who comes up with the funniest tale wins.

* Prize

Give the winner another funny, endearing baby tale -- a DVD of the film Juno or that '80s John Hughes classic, She's Having a Baby

Don’t Call Me “Baby”

Is it possible to make it through the entire party without saying the word "baby"? Guests have to try to avoid saying "baby" and call out those who slip up.

*You'll Need
One diaper pin for each guest

*Party Time
When guests arrive, give each one a diaper pin to put on her shirt.
Explain the rules when you give out the pins -- throughout the shower, no one can say the word "baby."
When someone slips and says "baby" -- and someone will! -- the person who catches her gets her pin.
Whoever has the most pins at the end of the shower wins.

*Prize
Give the winner a pin she'll actually want to wear, like a cute vintage brooch.
