I believe that upon looking introspectively, we would all see that not a one of us is truely happy. None of us know absolute contentment, be it financial, romantic, physical, or other forms of discontent, it is constant and remains an unchangeable fact...in one way or another we are all MISERABLE.
Why is that? What is happiness?
I suppose I should first define happiness for myself before asking the general masses what makes them "happy".
Happiness for me is the general security of knowing that I am loved, accepted, worthy of being fought for, and that my returned love is not unrequited.
But again the question...what IS love? Is it real, tangible? NO! So then what IS it? Perhaps it is nothing more than a little girl's fantasy. A dream that she creates as she sits amongst her childish dolls and dreams of a man that she believes will set her free. A knight in shining armor. A prince on a white stallion. Cinderella's Prince Charming. Only to discover later that this man does not exist and the unreasonable faximile that takes his place manages to crush all those girlish dreams along with her spirit.
How does that little girl recover? How does she remain? She grows bitter and angry. There-in lies the root of the question..."How does one overcome years of anger, bitterness, and distrust to achieve happiness?"
We must find reasons and a means to let go of the anger; the bitter woman must retreat and allow the girl to breathe once more. I am not one to believe in producing a bitter diatribe against men. We...of the supposed gentler sex, have made mence meat of more than one man's heart and are thus as guilty as he. None of us are shrouded in innocence. That ends the very moment we give our heart away to anyone. Yet all of us have felt the sting of heartbreak.
So why do we do it? What could possibly motivate us to love, trust, or even hurt another person when we know those feelings and the result of them all too well?
The everlasting persuit of happiness!
Some say one cannot or should not seek happiness within another person but it is human nature to need to feel acceptance, safe guarded, fought for, and ultimately...loved.
So as we find ourselves bound together in this endless dance of life, twirling between love, hate, and bitter resignation; let us all take a moment to remember in horridly vivid detail the last time we felt gut wrenching heartache, burning rage, and the sublime bliss of love. For perhaps we will smile a bit more genuinely at a passing stranger, because they too, may be feeling one of those very emotions on thier own twisted dance toward finding the ever elusive state of happiness. And perhaps in understanding...we too might find true peace of mind, and with that.......happiness.
