Greetings and salutations! Welcome to the tangled web that is inside my mind. This the first time I have decided to blog here on Fubar. Today I felt the urge to write for the first in in very long while. I am not sure if this is the correct forum for my writings, but hey I do tend to color outside the lines most of the time. Since today is the October full moon and the actual Samhain. I thought it would be the perfect time to share four poems with any who might be interested. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ AIR As nighttime falls, the dark wind blows over my skin. I feel her presence, as much tonight as when she slipped from my hands nearly a year ago. Cold stone ill befits one so full of life. Chiseled font; raw epitaph - so limited, so gone. The leaves dance; I feel her hair dancing too. Then a flutter of wings. Cold, brilliant beam of Luna's light surrounds. For a moment, you are caught in the winds. For a moment, you are present in the leaves. For a moment, I see you, staring down as if from a great height. Your foot is a mausoleum. Your legs: cliffs. Your face: a masque of stars amidst a swirl of nighttime clouds. I feel the pressure upon my breast as I gaze up into your moon-shrouded eyes. I cannot breathe. Your foot descends, pushing me down upon the gravel path. Amidst the stones, I call your name. Amidst the dead, I seek your life. Amidst the futility, I plead for mercy. And it is granted. I see you again as I look up at the sky and feel leaves in my hair. You have forgiven a fool for a crime not committed. I see the winds twist apart, the leaves falling quiet. Still. As midnight surrounds, I hear her voice whisper on the lingering breeze. We shall meet again. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ FIRE Beating heat ripples in timpanic explosions all around. The sands, so hot, scald the narrow paws that dance upon them. Whirling dervishes of chaotic expression rise and rise again. The dance, goes on. Spiraling. Descending. Shrinking. The change has come upon the year. The old King dies; a sacrifice upon his pyre as he is diminished. The heat glows redder and colder. The ashes become marked with spots of dying stars. The body turns in upon itself, shrinking, smaller, dwindled. Mere toys swell up in size, dwarfing the individual. A house of cards becomes of blazing mansion all around. Embers die; size continues. The candle flame, alone against the night mirrors the sacrifice. Tinier and tinier. An insect lumbers by, ungainly and elephantine. A leaf falls, crashing like a falling house. Down, down, down. Extinguished in a puff of inconsequential warmth. Snuffed out. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WATER Crashing waves in the night. I look out upon the river as the riverboat slides past. Happy voices, raised in song. A new year. A new life. A new chance. A slender rabbit betwixt yin and yang. Dancing upon the precipice like The Fool. Courting The Wheel. Living in the waters poured out by The Star. My life's blood bubbles with warmth despite the autumn air. My feet flow, carrying me down to the shore. The naiad have been here. The sidhe look out from their watery homes. As prescribed, I kneel on the banks and taste the flowing lifeblood of Gaia. I feel the river alter its flow, diving down my throat. A thirst I never knew I had is instantly quenched. More flows into me and my limbs grow strong with the Mother's support. I feel my limbs grow thick and powerful. My legs become like trees. Clothing bursting from my frame, I stand tall and look down, down, down. I am a titan. I am fed and fueled by my mother's milk. Fluid and graceful, I step into the river and wave farewell to the riverboat. The wheel turns and I stride off towards the city's lights. Feet booming in the darkness and splashing in the tiny lakes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ EARTH The dawn is near. Finger lights of autumn red etch across the sky. In a vast palm, nestled between black pads, the last reveler stirs. Started, alone, questing, confused. The hands of Samhain are fading, but hold fast. Rei Est Mortus, yet the sun rises. A shiver through tiny limbs; a silent prayer of shock upon looking at a world anew. Always having been small; only now realizing it's true scope. Stones below, trees above. The body beats with a newfound purpose. Healthy and strong, it lives. Small and insignificant seeming, it rises to greet the day. Tiny and helpless, yet the budding seed from which an oak shall grow. A tiny pebble that will halt a warhorse and it's messenger. A single grain of rice that will serve to stave off hunger in the hands of a farmer. The small wolf raises his little muzzle to the sky and howls. Dunes shakes. Hills crumble. Ravines echo. The earth is alive. It's smallest part, a cosmos in and of itself. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Within these poems are my praises to the elements bound together with my spirit. ~As above,So below... ~As within ,So without... ~Kristin~
