I was driving home from work and listening to a talk radio show that I recently found I quite enjoy.
There was an email read on the show that shocked me.
The woman wrote about her sister who she looked up to and aspired to be like. The account took place after the sister's husband had broken his leg.
The sister was having coffee with friends, her husband was on the couch in another room. He rudely requested that she bring him a certain drink. Obviously he should not have acted in such a way. The woman went into the room picked up his crutch and refractured the leg which was in a cast. She left him screaming in agony while she finished coffee with friends and basically gloated. Later she decided to bring her husband to the hospital to care for his leg.
THIS WAS SPOUSAL ABUSE! Yet, the radio show was touting the email as humorous and the whole situation as such likewise. They basically where applauding the woman for setting down the law and letting her husband know she wasn't going to be mistreated. If the account where about a male perpetrator of such actions and abuse the result would be a ferocious cry for his blood and jailing him. Yet, since it was about a woman it's now humorous? I say her blood and jailing should also be asked for. ABUSE IS ABUSE. There are many assertive ways that this woman could have shown her husband that she would not take his disrespect. She chose to take a weapon with intent to cause injury.
I am in no way trying to lessen the plight of any woman who has been abused. I have taught some of my female friends how to protect and defend themselves physically, emotionally, and mentally from their abusers. The whole point is that abuse is unnacceptable from either partner.
People need to look at things before touting them as humorous. This was a nasty slap to the face of anyone who has suffered abuse. The radio hosts should have been more careful and also been much more aware of what content they provide. The show is notjust on radio but available online to a worldwide audience!
