The Kentucky House of Reps has a bill on the floor that will call for random drug screens to anyone on welfare (food-stamps, subsidized housing, etc). They argue that in the long run denying help to those that 'work the system" and use their welfare as a trade for drugs will be dropped from the programs and save MILLIONS of taxpayer dollars. I agree that this is a good idea, however, what about the children of these addicts that sometimes get food from the help their mom or dad receive?
Should the welfare board also involve child welfare services when there are children in the home once the food stamps and other resources have been taken or should that fall onto someone else's desk? |
