Renowned illusionist Criss Angel has a lot on his plate this year, and is expected to embark on even more projects in 2008. While he is preoccupied with shooting season 4 of Criss Angel: Mind Freak, his own reality series that centers on his unusual stunts and street magic acts, and while he tries to expose people who claim that they have supernatural abilities on his latest venture with mentalist Uri Geller on Phenomenon, the 39-year-old magician is also preparing for his upcoming controversial show at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas.
Expected to launch in September 2008, the new illusion-based Cirque du Soleil production at the Luxor Hotel will reportedly feature Angel in a 10-year run show with a possible 5-year renewal option of his contract.
“I start serious rehearsals on April 14th. And, one of my missions is to create a schedule, where I'll be able to do my 10 shows a week, 460 performances in 46 weeks, 4,600 performances in 10 years, and still be able to do the television and movie projects that I really want to explore,” the Phenomenon judge told MediaBlvd Magazine.
“For me, it's not about the money, and it's not about the fame. I love creating. I love to develop as an artist, and push my envelope, grow, make mistakes that I can learn from, and to try to be the very best that I can be while I'm on this Earth,” he added.
According to Angel, his upcoming show will feature a lot of visual illusions like floating over the Luxor, and a lot of interactive activity with the audience. He also says that it will be “a spectacle that has never been staged anywhere in the world, throughout the course of history.” Angel also takes pride in the fact that some of the world's greatest artists have been pulled in to work on behalf of the show to “literally create a live phenomenon.”
Aside from Mindfreak, Phenomenon and the Cirque du Soleil show, Angel is also busy with rehearsals for his own live shows, four other TV projects and a movie, which he is expected to work on before the year ends.
