To bring down the cost of health care and to stop people from using products that might be harmful to their health the U.S. government is adding a sin tax to such products in the hopes that driving up the cost via taxes will crub the use of those items. This is called "prevention".
In California and elsewhere we pay sin taxes on gasoline and tobacco products ( including cigarette lighters ). The sin tax targets special groups of consumers with that added sales tax.
Under review for future sin taxes are products called "junk food" and some soft drinks. If the food makes you fat they want to add a sin tax to make it less affordable then healthy food.
Not sure what else is on the agenda - perhaps booze?
Question: Should the government control what you consume by adding sin taxes to things they feel you should not use, such as tobacco, junk foods, and fosil fuel gasoline?
