Hi my name is Jay Willette and I describe myself as a CanAmeriNuck being that I have lived for many years on one side or the other of the Can. Am. border, but I was actually born in Canada. I reside in BC's interior when in Canada. Recently winters in Costa Rica.. searching for the elusive muse..

I hail originally from Nouveau Brunswick, the only bi-lingual province in Canada (despite what even many Canadians think of our language issues here).

Being an Army brat, we lived in many parts of the country from Yukon to 'Down East'.. I finished high school in Nova Scotia where I had quite a few other life affecting experiences and a number of summmer and part time jobs.. one of which included taking over a local rock band when the erstwhile leader went on to bigger things (ever hear of "Lighthouse? How about the Mommas and Poppas?).. we weren't very good, but played a lot at area military sites where alcohol had a major influence on both music making and music appreciation and aside from the negative affect on my grades in high school, afforded me a standard (not to mention speed) of living not usually enjoyed by my contemporaries..

While I did manage to sit thru courses required of first year students at a local Halifax University, I soon found sailing merchant tankers to South America more exciting and a whole lot better way to pass the more severe months of a Canadian winter.. thus began my life long love of things Latino and marino (not ONLY the friendly brown skinned chicas, either).. I realized I was a bit of a culture vulture, even in my formative years.. whatever they are.

Events soon found me in the great state of Texas (!) where upon realizing life ashore was a lot tougher and even potentially dangerous, I was kind of motivated by fear to once again seek the luxury of higher education (alas, at Cougar High I see I'm not the only one here) part time while toiling 6 days per week for the (named for a flower)company that made contented cows famous and paid for all my learning costs as long as I delivered passing grades. So appreciative was I that I joined up with the local Military Reserve unit..never activated since w2.

With only a short (de)tour of duty due to some kind of disagreement between Kennedy and a guy named Kruschev, or something like that, I managed to amass so many college credits which didn't seem to match that they offered me some kinda degree if only I would quit coming back,,, so I took it, taught in a business school briefly, then split for the west coast (Canada's) due to some family urgencies at the time.

The next 20 or so years are kinda blurry.. mostly long hours and a lot of studying and travel, working for (we called 'em Big 8, now a lot of them are called Defendants) consulting firms and oddly named high tech/computer companies like Honeywell, Control Data, NCR, Data General. Being a bi-coastal guy by nature, I worked both Route 128 (East) and Silicon Valley(West), determining by analysis of the empiricals that West was way best... even our weirdos were superiosos: Edson De Castro (Data General) could not compete with Jim Clarke (Silicon Graphics) both were sailors, both engineers, both were either crazy or eccentric (lots of evidence for both choices) but there it ended... details available upon request.. even spent almost a year working (yeah, honest)in beautiful Copenhagen.. ah that was a time...

Got married and divorced,, then married and widowed. MBA (Toronto) on the installment plan..lived in Western Canada, Toronto, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco Bay area, San Diego, Vancouver...

The best of all 'acquisitions' is my lovely and talented daughter, Natalie, recently graduated with double degrees in Cultural History and Film & Communication from University of Stockholm and the Ingmar Bergman film institute and now Assistant Producer of Cold Case Files Sweden. Just spent a magical summer with her in Stockholm and other spots around Sweden.. many pics to share.. just ask.

A sail boat nut (boatless for the first time in my adult life) Have re-invented myself many times over the years as conditions changed.. acquired a college diploma in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) which I plan to use as a way of supplementing my cruising kitty when finally I take off in my steel hulled (prolly a Roberts) 35-38 footer to do some serious cruising. Most recently, using the English teacher schtick, have been coaching Tico execs in business lingo/practices and presentation techniques in San Jose.

As good fortune would have it, while hoping (and looking) for sex, I found a great love and now have a wonderful, intelligent, beautiful, strong woman for my novia.. Ileana. She makes me feel young and vital again.. is a wonderful mother, a 'mujera sincera' and an inspiration for me to stay as young, fit and healthy as I can for as long as I can. I am truly a lucky dawg!!

I am also a Microsoft Systems Engineer, specializing in Small Business Server and small business network/business process issues, but I am trying to quit..It is more of a hobby now.. I love music, cooking (trained as a Chef) still pick a little guitar, old movies, books of all kinds, Llamas, good dogs , fishing (especially eating them),being in and around the ocean and did I mention Latino culture?. Am seriously studying Spanish these days with one of my objectives being to be able to read some of my favorite Latino writers in the original, Fuentes, Llosa, Neruda, et al.

Pura Fantasia.. Jay
