You give your heart completely
No matter what the cost
You spill your thoughts and then your soul
And then you find you’re lost.
“Watch out for him,” they told me.
“He’ll take your heart away.
He’ll leave you searching for the truth,
And lead your love astray.”
Some warned me once and others twice
“Don’t let your heart give in.
When love involves this young man
Your heart will never win.”
I ignored their words of warning
Closed my eyes to desperate looks
I longed to find the love
Written in poetry books.
Pain and anguish is what I found
Throughout my frantic search
Tears streaked down my cheeks
And my heart began to lurch.
Now they look at me in pity
With laughter in their eyes
“We told you girl and warned you:
Beware of all his lies.”
I look at them with wonder
With pain now in my eyes
The heartache has taken over
All that’s left are sighs.
