One To One

Consisting of vocalist Louise Reny and producer Leslie Howe, the duo released three albums and scored ten hits across Canada between 1985 and 1992. One to One evolved out of an Ottawa Valley band called Mainstream, who in the late '70s and early '80s, toured the local circuit performing cover songs. In 1983, Reny and Howe decided to strike out on their own, and after recording a few demos, they signed a two-album deal with Bonaire Records, and flew to West Germany to record. The dance fueled Forward Your Emotions was released in 1985 and became a smash hit across Canada. The singles "There Was A Time" and "Angel in My Pocket" also charted on the Canadian Top 40, the latter which also became a minor hit on the Billboard charts. A third single "Black on White" stalled at number 90 on the Canadian charts. Their 1988 follow-up 1-2-1 was a more guitar-based pop album that also became a smash hit. The hits "Hold Me Now" and "Do You Believe" climbed into the Canadian Top 40. Two more singles "Love Child" and "We've Got the Power" became modest hits as well. Following the demise of Bonaire Records, the group signed to A&M Records. Released in 1992, Imagine It was an adult contemporary based album that gave the band their biggest ever hit with "Peace of Mind (Love Goes On)". It also became a minor hit on the Billboard Charts. Two more singles "Memory Lane" and "Friends" reached the Canadian Top 40 as well. Following this success, Howe and Reny decided to pursue a different musical direction, and joined with three other musicians in the alternative rock band Sal's Birdland, which later morphed into the Artificial Joy Club. Angelfish / Garbage

Angelfish was an alternative rock band from Scotland. The band was made up mostly of former members of the band Goodbye Mr. Mackenzie. Although Shirley Manson was not a very active member of the group, she is the best known of them, because the band helped launch her career as the vocalist for the band Garbage. Originally, she only played keyboards and did some back-up vocals, but was eventually given the role of lead vocals. The rest of the Angelfish—Martin Metcalfe, Fin Wilson and Derek Kelly—are now in the band Isa & the Filthy Tongues, whose debut album was released in May of 2006. Angelfish had a small hit with the single "Suffocate Me", which had caught the eye of producer Steve Marker when aired on MTV's 120 minutes in the early hours of the morning. Steve Marker was working on a project with Nirvana producer Butch Vig. Vig soon after asked Manson to join his project (the band Garbage) which led to Angelfish breaking up soon afterwards. My Favorite Band

Calling themselves Da BoDeans, the original duo was Kurt Neumann (vocals & electric guitar) and Sam Llanas (vocals & acoustic guitar). In 1984 they teamed up with Guy Hoffman (drums). The trio quickly became a popular band on Milwaukee's East Side music scene. By the close of that year, Bob Griffin (bass), was brought into the group. In 1985 the quartet signed a contract with Slash/Warner Records and shortened their name to simply BoDeans. Under the guidance of producer T-Bone Burnett, they entered Hollywood's Sunset Sound Factory in October to record their first album. The critically acclaimed debut Love & Hope & Sex & Dreams was released in 1986. In January 1987, a Rolling Stone reader poll voted them Best New American Band. They have rotated through various musicians, including keyboardists Michael Ramos and Susan Julian, and drummers Rick Jeager, Kenny Aronoff, Rafael Gayol, Nick Kitsos, and most recently, Kevin Leahy. Their 1993 song "Closer to Free" was selected as the theme song to the TV series Party of Five. The band took some time off in the late 1990s so Sam and Kurt could each record solo albums. Sam created Absinthe "A Good Day To Die" with the help of Milwaukee musicians Jim Eannelli (guitars and bass) and Guy Hoffman (formerly of Oil Tasters and Violent Femmes, currently of Radio Romeo). Kurt released his solo album called Shy Dog on which he plays all the instruments. In 2001 the 17-song compilation The Best Of BoDeans - Slash and Burn was released on London/Slash/Rhino. In 2004 they returned with new songs on Resolution released on Rounder/Zoe. Their most recent CD, in 2005, is Homebrewed: Live from the Pabst. At the end of 2005, a DVD for Homebrewed: Live from the Pabst was released. Around January 2006, Bob Griffin left the band for unknown reasons.
