I must thank one of my CherryTap friends, Shae, for inspiring me to post this poem. I wrote this a long time ago after my grandmother died. Her death left a history that I will never know its depth, and it is because of this lack of knowledge I reflected and conjured this poem. Thank you Shae for reminding me how sometimes we take things for granted.
Few Moments
I can’t take back all those years
Where you sat back in your chair
And I only cared about
When could I play
Didn’t sit down to hear you say
What was on your mind
How I hated the time
You made me snap those peas
And these days I can snap
A thousands peas
If you were here
I wish I could have spend more time
Not thinking in my mind
What you would have said
And I dread the day
That I too must go
Would they speak to me,
Or will their minds
Be empty like I was?
Your history
Will forever be a mystery
To me
And it hurts
Love does hurt when
You can’t got back
And change
Those few moments
