Sharky's blog: "August 2007"

So-called sportscasters

College football is in full swing, the NFL is in it's second week and already I'm sick and tired of the blowhards, has-beens and ass-kissers who can't offer originality and are simply network "yes" people who are trying to pull themselves off as sports reporters and analysts. The biggest offenders are Michelle Tofoya, Lou Holtz, Chris Fowler, Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit. So let's start with Michelle, she roves the sidelines for college and NFL games and she tries to provide some "insights" to the game and perhaps some of the personal side of the players. Honestly I don't care to know about someone's grandma or some strange connection they have to someone on the other sideline. She just gets on my nerves. Give me some inside anaylsis or perspective you have from being down there on the field sweetheart. Now onto Lou Holtz. Someone check this guy for Alzheimer's, just seeing the look on Mark May's face when Lou starts going off about some team needing to rebound, or being able to come back strong just blows me away. Lou was suspected of breaking the rules at Notre Dame and got caught at SC State. Spurrier is now running the show at SC State and Notre Dame hasn't been the same for various reasons. Lou needs to just retire, go away, write a book or something else. In my opinion he has on business being there and it's his overblown reputation and perceived expertise that has him in that seat for ESPN. Move on Lou, the game passed you about 5 years ago and you didn't adjust, otherwise you would still be coaching. Now for the 3 biggest offenders in my opinion, Chris, Lee and Kirk. These three run their mouths and speak in absolutes half the time their on the television and then suddenly get amnesia for the next week when their predictions, guarantees or locks don't come to fruition. Chris is merely a pitch man for ESPN and a homer for whoever they're covering. Kirk doesn't really have any insight when he speaks about momentum and intangibles. Point blank it means he's got no clue and hasn't really bothered to do any background work on the game. Lee actually has some ability to analyze but he doesn't choose a side too often. He plays both sides so that he doesn't offend anyone. For crying out loud Lee pick a winner and have the spine to stick with it. Actually the last time these 3 clowns picked a winner it bit them in the ass. I seem to recall them all picking Oklahoma to "embarass" and "dominate" Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl. They were wrong then and most of their anaylsis they provide a 5th grader with a half-way decent attention span could provide me the same observations they provide on any given Saturday morning. Thank God for the mute button.
