Many Remain Without Power After Severe Storms

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―

The storms on Wednesday night knocked out power to thousands of people all across western Pennsylvania.

Many residents remain in the dark this morning as crews continue to work to restore power to all of them.

Officials with Duquesne Light reported that as of 5:30 a.m. that they had about 12,300 without power.

The most are in the eastern suburbs, like Monroeville, Penn Hills, Forest Hills and Churchill.

Officials say they hope to have all power restored late today, between 8 p.m. and midnight.

There are also a number of outages in Lawrenceville, officials say.

Also, Allegheny Power has more than 3,700 customers without power.

Officials say those are mostly in areas of Westmoreland County including Greensburg, Irwin, Jeannette and Youngwood.

The wicked weather Wednesday night caused plenty of flash flooding in southwestern Pennsylvania.

There have been reports of flooding around the Pittsburgh area.

Turtle Creek Township, Reserve Township and Wilkinsburg Borough have declared states of emergency.

Pittsburgh's River Rescue sent a boat to help with rescuing people from their homes.

According to the Emergency Operations Center in Allegheny County, the National Weather Service says the city of Pittsburgh had more than three inches of rain.

The heavy downpours led to flash flooding on many local roads, leaving drivers stranded.

Pittsburgh's River Rescue Team, along with emergency workers from Baldwin and West View rescued 14 people trapped in their cars.

One person rescued on Second Avenue suffered a leg injury.

Zone 5 police is operating out of Zone 4 in Squirrel Hill because of flooding on Washington Boulevard.
