Weakness for Animals

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket Thai people really love animals. This is "Moo Ping". It means BBQ'd pork on a stick. Don't know who named her that. This 7-11 was built in my neighborhood about 6 months ago and Moo Ping has been in front of the door from day one. She's there in the daytime to get the blast of air conditioning when people walk in and out of the automatic doors. She's there at night to give you sad looks so you'll buy her something to eat. (usually works) The thing is, is she's there, 24/7 just like 7-11. We Thais think it's normal, but my BF thinks it's hilarious that no one tries to move her from in front of the door. He assures me the dog would have been gone the first day. People will walk around her or step over her, but no one would try to move her from her cool spot in front of the door. Even the delivery people carrying big boxes just step over or go around. Why make her move, she's not hurting anyone. My BF thinks we have a real weakness for animals.

Thais and Food

On the list of Thai priorities, eating ranks right about at the top. We Thais love to eat. My BF won't even talk to me, hell he won't even look at me if I'm hungry, because I'm a real bitch. I know it's wrong but I can't help myself. And it’s not only me, it’s all Thai women. Thai guys have more control. I don't think you can go a hundred yards in Bangkok without seeing some sort of restaurant or food stall or something to eat. And if you don't want to leave the house, just wait a few minutes and some kind of foodmobile will pass your house. I don't know how we stay so thin because we eat and eat a lot. NOBODY starves in Thailand. And the food is good. We've had about 3000 years and we've mastered the science of cooking. You can have sweet, hot, sour and salty, four tastes in one spoonful, which might sound offensive but is quit the opposite. Even though everyone can cook at least a little, in Bangkok people usually eat out everyday. With so much food around, it's cheaper to eat out than to buy groceries and cook. And it’s usually good. Plus, no dishes to wash!!! Cheap, delicious and no cleanup just makes sense to us. We like foreign food too. In one shopping mall near my house, there are 6 KFC’s. Oh how we love KFC. Also McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Burger King, Subway, Baskin Robbins, Dairy Queen, Dunkin Donuts, MMMMMM! These places are ALWAYS packed. If you come to Thailand, be ready to eat, eat, eat. And while you’re at home, drop into your nearest Thai restaurant for a real treat. Believe me, you’ll like it more than boring Chinese food.
