Let me think?? What do you need to know about me?? I have three sisters 2 older and one younger. My younger sister is 18 and she has Autism. She is my world and when I get the chance to see her that's it for me. I love them more then words can explain and they will be chosen over anyone else. My parents and I have a great relationship and I tell them everything. I have a huge heart and I'll talk to anyone (literally anyone) I love to sing, read, write, and watch movies. I love my Sigma sisters and they are the GREATEST. Nothing beats hanging out on the big blue couch and watching a movie with seven of the best girls ever! I'll try anything once and I can find fun in anything! :) I'm a huge nerd and I love to read and watch cartoons (i don't care how old I get). I love getting jazzy and dressed up but I like to get down and dirty too. I love doing things that people don't expect. My family calls me "Ms. Diversity" I love everyone and I fight for the under-dog always. My sorority sisters call me the "ghetto pricess" that's where I got my name, haha! My major is Social Work/Social Welfare and I'm trying to pick up a minor in African American Studies. Eventually I want to work with kids with Emotional Disturbances and Behavioral Disorders. But if I choose to work with adults I want to work in a prison system. I love being challenged. Like I said before I have a huge heart and I care about everyone. My personal thought is there are no bad children, just bad choices. I love kids... especially kids with ED, BD, or LD. I love helping and making a difference. I have 5 tattoos and 9 piercings. Idols
I love my mom and dad! They are amazing role models and have set the bar really high for their three daughters. They have been happily married for 32 years and still going strong. My mother has always supported her children in everything they do. No matter what it is, my mom will support me. She has been there for me through everything she supported me when I was going on tours with the dance teams and supported me when I was ready to leave for school. She is amazing. My father is the hardest working man I have ever met. As much as we don't see eye to eye I still love him. My sisters have HUGE hearts one is a special ed. teacher and the other is a social worker in private family practice. They are amazing. My little sister is my heart, she has taught me so much about who I want to be and what I want to do with my life. She is the reason I have such an open mind and accepting heart. She taught me to be tough enough to take a punch to the eye from a kid and to be loving enough so that when that kid starts to cry/break down I'll be there and I wont even remember that this was the same kid that just punched me in the eye. The kids that I worked with at the YWCA GB East Side Center. These kids opened my eyes to a whole other life. I learned more about gangs, drugs, ect. working with those kids then I ever imagined. I saw and heard things that will stick to my mind forever. One day that I remember in particular was the day that my least favorite kid was being particularly irritating. Fortunatly, I have alot of patients. I sat him down to talk to him and after we started talking he looked at me and said "Ms. Ashley, why do you care so much?" I said "What do you mean Dantrell?" he said to me, and the look in his eye will be in my memory forever "I mean, no one cares about me cept my mom, and no one is nice to me like you are. You always ask before you get mad. You never yell at me even when I can tell that I'm making you mad. It's like you love me for no reason." Hopefully in my professional career I will make every child I work with feel that way.
