II Phaced was founded in the winter of 2011 by Doc Nasdee and the original DJ, DJ Swindle. It was initially, just a DJ deal Swindle got from a former co-worker at G-Unit Records, Sha Money XL, who later became vice president of Def Jam Recordings. Sha Money wanted to create a westcoast "DJ Khalid" type of situation. Once Swindle was asked if he could rap. Swindle brought Doc Nasdee into the fold. It was then, Doc came up with the name "II Phaced".

Sha-Money provided them with a couple different beats, but they were slow coming and far between. A lot of different producers said they were down to kick in a couple, but no one ever did. Not wanting to let this opportunity get away, Doc took every penny he had and put it towards buying equipment to try and make his own. That's when Did Dat was created. Sha-Money really reacted positive to it, and the whole concept he initially came up with changed. His focus now, we to make II Phaced recording artists.

A few other songs were made, but nothing seemed to capture Sha's initial attention like Did Dat. One of those songs was a song called "Karma". "Karma" was a story rhyme about a couple who was malisciously split up by a hating best friend, who later, found what the ugly head of karma can look like. Swindle played it for a few people. Tech N9ne happened to be in the studio with some friends of his, and while listening to it during a conversation with Swindle, someone suggested trying the story telling skills at remaking Slick Rick's Children's Story.

Doc was intrigued. He was apprehensive about the suggestion at first, because, he had so much respect for the classics (especially that one), he wasn't sure if he could do it justice. He thought on it a few days, and researched all the past attempts by other people. He became more and more positive that he could do better. So he played with the beat a little bit, updated it, and made it from a west coast perspective. He was also careful not to try and mimc Slick Rick's voice. He wanted to pay homage to a classic, so to do that, he had to not fall into the trap of not copying certain mannerisms, while still keeping it fresh, and adding a bit of his on flavor to it.

Sha-Money FLIPPED. He was back on the "II Phaced" page (or so the thought was), but there was still no effort to assist Doc and Swindle in any way. Bills were piling up, because so much money was invested in equiment, and readying themselves for all the promises that were made. All the while, Swindle's health started getting worse and worse; until finally, Swindle felt he was slowing the process down, and couldn't commit to the upcoming situation. So shortly after they left Def Jam, Swindle left the fold.

From day one, Doc invisioned a group, not an individual, so he never promoted himself as "Doc Nasdee", but the group - even though he was without a DJ. He still wanted to be "hip-hop". He wanted a DJ he could bring to the for-front and have the DJ be equally as important. The whole idea of a rapper and a DJ working a crowd at live performances was over-whelming. He was a student of that; he loved that! THAT is what he wanted to be apart of.

During the downtime, Doc found himself not in the studio as often. He reflected back on most of the other songs and felt most were rushed trying to meet a deadline the label looked as though they weren't planning to honor, anyway. So he took this time to think, and focus on what he wanted long term. He's always wanted more than just rapping. So he decided to do something no one else has done before. He decided to set the platform for a brand. The easy part is booking shows and performing all over localy. Artist have been doing it for years. The problem is, most get stuck there. So he decided to do the hard part first, and that is promote and establish II Phaced as a business - as a brand.

Throughout this time, Doc reconnected with the first DJs he's had. Dj Gilly Gill and DJ Pauly-Paul (aka DJ Tempo). The plan was to try biulding a little with them. Gilly Gill has always been all in, but the geographic obsticles were going to remain an issue. Paul, on the other hand, was closer, but recently married.


As far as The Slut on The Cut Gilly-Gill, he will ALWAYS be a member of the group. And when schedules permit, he is quiet happy to jump on stage with Joe and Doc. And though Swindle is now into managing other acts (the likes of Eazy-E's third son Yung Eazy, and the chicano sinsation, DoLL-e Girl), he too, will always be seen as a viable member as well. If anything, in spirit alone.
