THE SWING
Beneath the mighty elm tree, beside the swollen brook was the old tire swing. It was there nestled among the thicket, pussy willows swaying with the breeze they would meet.He was always there first, waiting, waiting to catch the first glimpse of her. A silhouette at first the suns rays beaming outward from behind her adorning her with an angelic glow.It was to be expected though for to him she is an angel.
The covered train tressel with it`s fresh coat of red paint framed in the distance by rows upon rows of sunflowers stood in quiet observation as it awaits the clickety clack of the old steam engine. The bullfrogs croak, the fish jump as if to say...look at me, and a rabbit nibbles away.
Towards her he would run, then slowing as if to not seam to eager he would call her name. She always looked around as if she hadn`t seen him and said -is someone there? It`s me he cried... oh it`s you , you silly boy , is there no place you have to be? Yes in your arms he cried, and she would run yelling you`ll have to catch me first.
To the swing she always ran with it`s faded rope and cord showing through from years of use.Push me she`d say, high so my feet touch the stars.Slowly at first he would push then stop to reach around for a kiss, she would always pull pull away for this was a game they had played a thousand times over. For a kiss i will he said, and with a quick peck on the lips she`d give him and turn and yell, higher, higher.
Her hair like a waterfall as she`d rise up to meet the sky, her giggling-higher,higher.It was then he would run underneath her, her favourite part-he was such a daredevil.Turning he`d catch her wrap his arms around her and they would kiss.Locked in each others gaze-they would kiss.
It`s many years past now, the once fresh paint of the old tressel faded, only an echo of a train long since past. The sunflowers nowhere to be seen, still an occasional fish would flaunt it`s acrobatic prowess. The rope long since changed many times and the tire probably too,who knew.Carefully he helps her in,gently pulls back and stops, leans forward and reaches around for a kiss. This time she does not resist for time may erode some things but their love is just as strong as it was those many years ago and she giggles higher, higher.
