The Republican Party likes to state that it is the party of Lincoln. So its a bit shocking when it was leaked today that there is a plan afoot to proclaim President Obama as the Metro-sexual Black Abraham Lincoln.
Now I find it strange that a Republican contributor would want to link a sitting democratic president with the founder of the Republican Party. It illustrates how far the Republican Party has drifted from its roots. Ever since the Watergate scandals, and the election of Newt Grimgrinch, and Karl Rover, the Republicans and their agents have engaged in these swift boat tactics.
Conservative billionaire Joe Ricketts proposed to bankroll a Super PAC to attack President Obama and to rekindle controversy over his connections to Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Ricketts started TD Ameritrade, and the Ricketts family has a 95 percent controlling interest in Major League Baseballs Chicago Cubs and Wrigley Field (where a buffalo concession sells meat from the Ricketts buffalo ranch in Wyoming) as well as 25 percent of Comcast Sportsnet Chicago.
The Reagan/Bush Supreme Court has stated that a super PAC does not need to follow the same rules as a political campaign. As a result, wealthy persons can air whatever they wish with little consequences. Studies have shown the average person cannot distinguish between a candidates ad and one by a superpac.
So help me decide, should Congress take up the issue that recognizes corporations as persons? Or should we continue to allow wealth special interests force their dogma down our throats.
